Holland: Hindu temple under attack by Muslims
Cid Martel of Dutchdisease.com has kindly sent over this translation of a Dutch-language article.
Why is it permissible in the Dutch press to say "Hindu" but not "Muslim," so that we get a story about a "Hindu" temple attacked by "Moroccan" youth? Are we supposed to believe that Moroccans as such have some animus toward Hindus? Are we to assume that this is fallout from some border dispute between Morocco and India? (You didn't know they shared a border? Of course they do. It runs just southwest of Poland China, the famous hog-breeding nation.)
A Hindu temple in The Hague, the Ram Mandir, is frequently being attacked by a group of Moroccan youth. Young Hindus are so fed up with the situation they want to take matters into their own hands. Morrocans shove dog faeces through the mailbox and have broken into the temple twice, stolen a statue, urinated inside and stolen money from the moneybox. Mister S. Ramdhani, a Hindu priest, says: They spit, dont let visitors pass through, robbed two elderly ladies and then threatened them not to press charges. Our secretary was attacked with a stick.
Ramdhani doesnt want young Hindus and Moroccans to clash. If groups start fighting each other we get a very bad situation. We cant have that here in Holland. Ramdhani is very embittered about the case. Last year he was given a ribbon by the queen for his contribution to the integration of foreigners in the neighbourhood. Every year thousands of students from The Hague come to the temple to learn more about the Hindu faith; its also a haven for troubled teens. Since 9/11 Ramdhani has been trying to reach out to Christians and Muslims.
The trouble caused by Moroccan youth has made a dent in Ramdhanis idealism. Hes thinking about no longer attending the 9/11 meetings. I feel discriminated against. Why they have to choose our temple? There is a mosque nearby. Why dont they go over there to cause trouble? They must hate the Hindu faith. Otherwise I dont know.
Rabin Baldewsingh, a member of the city council for the social-democrats, asked mayor Deetman for help. The police says its on the agenda.
Sure it is.
Agreed, katana. My favorite 16-course meal!! When I was a college student visiting Amsterdam, I used to practically live on those sandwiches at Broodje von Koodje (spelling is way off, but if you've been there, you know what I mean.) Don't think I'd want to do that now. Oh yeah -- that other stew thing was good -- hutsput or something like that?
Hmmmm. You might have gone a long time without bringing this up.
Wow, you threw me for a minute. I've only heard of "Holland", Mi., but yep there is a "New" Holland :-)
Dude. You're from Canada.
I actually was going to say something about McGreevy or Teddy K or Boxer and how we shouldn't throw stones BUT I clicked on and saw you were from CANADA.
You know there are Dutch troops in Iraq, unlike some (cough cough) other countries.
And exactly in which war was that? The war of 1812? If so you must be referring to General Hull. But then again we have The Battle of Lake Erie where Commodore Perry said, "WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY AND THEY ARE OURS." (and they were)
What will it take before we fight back with enough force to squash these cowards?
LOL. Sorry Will, our invasion budget is all used up.
The period of Islâmic conquests and empire building marks the first phase of the expansion of Islâm as a religion. Islâm's essential egalitarianism within the community of the faithful and its official discrimination against the followers of other religions won rapid converts. Jews and Christians were assigned a special status as communities possessing scriptures and called the people of the Book (ahl al-kitâb ) and, therefore, were allowed religious autonomy. They were, however, required to pay a per capita tax called jizyah , as opposed to pagans, who were required to either accept Islâm or die. The same status of the people of the Book was later extended to Zoroastrians and Hindus, but many people of the Book joined Islâm in order to escape the disability of the jizyah. A much more massive expansion of Islâm after the 12th century was inaugurated by the Sufis (Muslim mystics), who were mainly responsible for the spread of Islâm in India, Central Asia, Turkey, and sub-Saharan Africa
"New Holland" is the farm machinery maker. You are right, Holland Michigan is the big town. My mistake ..... I don't know if there's much of a town named "New Holland"
Assault and vandalism are legal in Holland now?
That's what happens when you approve same-sex marriages.
/sarcasm
Muhammad ambushed caravans and was a sneaky assassin. These Mohammedans are only emulating his life as the Koran commands them to. If they push terrorism too far we will waste Mecca/Medina and that will be their end of their faith in "omnipotent" allah
However I will wager that it is all done peacefully. As we are all aware; Islam is the religion of peace!
Holland needs CCW. Right quick.
Our coffee houses are a little different from yours. Would you be able to adjust?
America elected bill clinton, and his wife! - what's your point?
A question is not a 'point'.
So was New York City -- originally called New Amsterdam. The area around New York City is dotted with place names derived from Dutch towns, words or family names such as Staten Island, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Orange (NJ), Orange County (NY), the Kill van Kull, Catskill Mountains, etc.
Historically, yes. Grand Rapids retained much of the culture as well, with several excellent Reformed colleges. There are other smaller enclaves too - Ontario, NW Iowa, NW Washington State, and a few in Southern California. Historically the church (for Protestants at least) has been the center of the community for the Dutch, and where there is a community there is usually a solid church or five.
