Marriage licenses denied to gay couples
WTNH TV, New Haven, CT | February 14, 2005 | Tricia Taskey

(Hartford-WTNH, Feb. 14, 2005 12:25 PM) _ Valentine's Day is a popular day for people to get married. For others it's become a day to make a political statement. Today some gay and lesbian couples are heading to city hall to try and get marriage licenses.

Reverend George Chen and Reverend Julio Flores have been together for eight years. They own a home together and consider themselves to be married. But in the eyes of the law they are not.

"For us marriage is a sacrament," says Rev. Flores. "Gender is irrelevant. People marry who they love."

Connecticut doesn't recognizes same sex marriage, but Flores and Chen are trying to change that. They want the legal benefit and rights that go along with marriage.

"Medical care, pension, inheritance, all sorts of things are tied up in the marriage law to which same sex couples are denied," says Rev. Chien.

So today they celebrate Valentine's Day with a trip to city hall hoping to get those rights.

"Yes, were here to apply for a marriage license," they told the town clerk.

"Ok, well, Connecticut does not recognize same sex marriage," is the reply.

"This is what we expected to happen but it encourages us to get people to stand forward and change the laws," says Rev. Chien.

Chen and Flores have come here for the last three years on Valentine's Day requesting a marriage license and every year that request is denied. So why come back?

"I think it's important to keep stating the cause, keeping it out there so people don't forget," says Rev. Flores.

People on the other side of the issue are also hoping people don't forget. Brian Brown with the Family Institute of Connecticut says "these sorts of actions just make it clear we need a state constitutional amendment protecting marriage and people in the state need to stand up and say enough is enough. Marriage is between a man and a woman."

Ironic that, if their parents held the same beliefs, neither would have ever been born.

Good. Make them obey the law. Like everyone else -- queers are no exception, even though they think so.

I am guessing that these are two reverends are among the "people of faith" who have signed onto the Dems-have-values-too campaign.

People marry who they love

Sure, next thing you know, some fruitcakes will be requesting [with PETA support] the right to marry their dog or cat.

Well, if it a sacrament, get married in a church. After all, isn't one of them a Reverend? Oh, but a church ceremony doesn't come with a tax break, does it?

Connecticut is also refusing to let me marry my pet sheep, cuddles. And my NAMBLA neighbor Barney is being denied the right to marry that 8 year-old boy he bought in Venezuela. Furthermore, my Muslim pal Osama is being refused marrige licenses for wives 2 to 4.

Oh, when will the oppression end?

ANYONE can be a REVEREND. UNIVERAL LIFE CHURCH IN CALIFORNIA will ordain anybody for a fee. My husband was ordained 5 years ago as a joke. It is funny but he doesn't go out using his "bought" reverend title to do illegal things.

Mummmm, which chapters of the Bible do these two "Reverend's" fail to follow? Do they just skip those books that talk about the very sins these two so called men of the cloth are violating?

What's with this statement...you homophobic, sexist, conservative pig? Hmmmm? Open your narrow mind, Eagle.

Hehe! Denote sarcasm.

Stop being a homophobic, right wing attack machine and open your mind, RA.

Don't you know the Bible has nothing to do with this? Hmmmm?

Hehe! Sarcasm alert.

That sez it all. Except for: what can they possibly hope to gain by defiling the title of reverend. I think that sexual deviancy is actually just part of suite of malaise that seeks to cheapen, vilify and corrupt anything that is noble and out of their reach.

-Chen and Flores have come here for the last three years on Valentine's Day requesting a marriage license and every year that request is denied. So why come back?-

The answer is simple: "Please recognize my emotional problems and celebrate them so I never, ever have to get myself fixed!"

If it wasn't for the impact on children - how it will be impossible in future to even hint that their sexual confusion is merely that, and not a good choice - I wouldn't really give a rip. However, since the whole GLBT agenda is already in schools, they can go screw themselves. Oh, never mind, they already are.

I know, I am a miserable excuse for a bleeding-heart socialist. Just no sensitivity...I must take a kinder, gentler approach. :-)
