Google Employees - Including CEO - Gave Overwhelmingly to Democrats (98% to Dems)
Interest Alert ^

Search engine is cash engine for Democrats

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Employees of U.S.-based search engine Google gave $207,650 to federal candidates for the 2004 elections -- virtually all of it to Democrats.

A USA Today analysis published Monday indicated 98 percent of the money went to Democrats, the most-lopsided giving of any of the top tech company donors.

Microsoft was the biggest tech donor, with its political action committee contributing $3.1 million last year, 60 percent to Democrats.

Overall, 53 percent of high-tech industry contributions went to Democrats, said the liberal Center for Responsive Politics, a group that tracks campaign spending and contributions.

Republicans must work hard to win support from a company whose employees seem philosophically wed to Democrats, CRP's Larry Noble said.

Google declined to discuss employee campaign contributions but the among the company's top 2004 givers was Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt, whose biggest single donation was $25,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Of Course Google gave overwhelimingly to democrats..

their corporate credo is "Do no Evil" and they clearly mark advertisers as separate from the unbiased hits..

only democratic pansies like google would have such a motto ...

use microsoft they will have an inferior product, and mingle in paid advertisers with objective results.

I don't have a problem with a company (or actor, musician, etc.)merely donating money to the democrats, which, as noted by a poster above, is perfectly legal and ethical. Once, however, they start spouting the far-left moonbat nonsense (Bush = Hitler, no blood for oil, etc.) I will actively avoid their product.

Microsoft just relaunched their search engine to compete with Google. Worth checking out.

I love Google and would hate not to use them. I'll have to put them in the same category as Apple Computer - a company with an indispensible product run by a bunch of leftists. I guess we'll all just have to get along, to quote the contemporary philospher Rodney King.

I'm sorry, but who the F*** cares? It's a search engine, for crying out loud!

Does giving to the Dem party automatically make their search engine liberal?

I'd say giving them 98% of over $200k is a sure sign.

Reading the comments on the thread, it appears that a fair number of your fellow FReepers care.

Does the fact that they give to Dems make their search engine liberal? No. But in a small way, every use of their search engine contributes to their success and their bottom line and their ability to contribute to candidates and causes that oppose what we stand for.

This cannot be right. How could we give all of this money to these guys and yet they couldn't solve the black box voting scandal?

Yes, and it surprises me. Are we going to start boycotting everyone who happened to donate to the Democratic party? Since Google has never tried to proselytize any sort of liberal message to anyone as far as I can tell, why does it matter if they gave some money to the "other side?"

Besides, it sure didn't seem to make a difference how much money the Dems had in the end.

I'm going to keep using the best search engine I know of, and that' currently Google. If someone else comes along that is better, I'll consider using that. It boggles the mind that anyone could care that much about what party someone gave to, that they would start a boycott. What's next, not talking to a friend because they gave to the Dems?

For the time being, I'll continue to use Google too because I think they're the best, or at the least, they're very very good and I'm comfortable and familiar with them. But it does bother me to patronize such a company. I think that's a normal human reaction.
