WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Employees of U.S.-based search engine Google gave $207,650 to federal candidates for the 2004 elections -- virtually all of it to Democrats.
A USA Today analysis published Monday indicated 98 percent of the money went to Democrats, the most-lopsided giving of any of the top tech company donors.
Microsoft was the biggest tech donor, with its political action committee contributing $3.1 million last year, 60 percent to Democrats.
Overall, 53 percent of high-tech industry contributions went to Democrats, said the liberal Center for Responsive Politics, a group that tracks campaign spending and contributions.
Republicans must work hard to win support from a company whose employees seem philosophically wed to Democrats, CRP's Larry Noble said.
Google declined to discuss employee campaign contributions but the among the company's top 2004 givers was Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt, whose biggest single donation was $25,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Good heavens. Cranky today?

I'm sorry to hear it. Google has been straightforward and honest with its product, and so far have made no efforts to violate privacy or insert spyware. That sets them apart from almost everyone else in this area.
You forgot his other money links in Japan, HongKong AND Mainland Communist China!
Those quietly disappeared right after they were exposed on FR --- the MSM didn't metion them - but surprisingly (not!) neither did the RNC!
No, I wasn't. Wonderful. I probably looked right at it and missed it when I went over there earlier.
Thanks for pointing that out.
I pesonally doubt that Janet Reno has made anyone hard.
Well, Gates is an ultra-liberal himself, a Warren Buffet one-world 'family planning' type, as everyone knows. But it does seem as if Google, unlike Microsoft (below Gates), are very political and partisan, where Microsoft just wants to take over the world. Some choice. I think I'll stick to meta-search, which check out more than just MSN and Google.
But if the recommendations go out for an alternative only because Google is revealed to be so mindlessly partisan against the interests of the American people, then how do you know the same isn't true of Teoma, or whatever else is recommended?
It wouldn't necessarily have been that capital intensive to start a search engine back in the days of Netscape 3. But today, much more is expected. The entry costs would be high. Still, it would be nice to see an alternative. There are HUGE holes in Google's coverage. Documents waiting to be found, just aren't indexed for whatever reason.
What's up with all the "dang, gotta change my search engine" posts?
Google makes their money off of ad-clicks. If you don't like the way they're spending their money, don't click the ads. You get a cool search engine, and they get nothing.
Really, though, Google is a good company. There *are* some good people who just happen to be Democrats. I personally don't a have problem supporting Google, in spite of their political leanings.
To remove Google from Firefox Go to Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins and remove google.gif and google.src.
I now use Clusty.

I smell a payola here. 98% is way too high of number. I wonder if they were kicking back to their employees. Man if they did they are sunk.
No thank you. That's a spyware haven.
I love Google. I have to agree with you Google Maps ROCKS!
I agree 100%
Do you know how to change the search window on Mozilla away from Google?
