(CBS) The 19-year-old daughter of Alan Keyes has a Valentine for the anti-gay rights conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate.
Maya Marcel-Keyes will be making her first public appearance as a gay activist at a Valentine Day's rally in front of the Maryland State House, says Dan Furmansky, the leader of Equality Maryland, a gay rights group.
Last summer her father, a conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate, caused a stir during the Republican convention by labeling Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter a sinner and calling homosexuality "selfish hedonism."
"It was kind of strange that he said it like a hypothetical," she told the Washington Post. "It was really kind of unpleasant."
Marcel-Keyes told the Post her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay. She said she loves her parents.
Keyes' Web site says he is against "the homosexual rights agenda, including same-sex marriage."
Marcel-Keyes grew up in Darnestown, Md., attended a conservative Catholic school for girls in McLean, Va., spent a year in the south of India advocating tribal rights, and plans to attend Brown University this fall, according to an Equality Maryland press release.
Furmansky told CBSNews.com that Marcel-Keyes would not be speaking to the media ahead of Monday's rally, and probably not afterward, either.
Bloggers have identified her Web site as
http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=Xmisled0youthX. The author of the blog says it is public and she has nothing to hide.

Every criticism I've heard shows either a lack of understanding of conservatism or Dr. Keyes plain english, or both. Of course. Keyes and his followers are the only ones that "get it." The rest of us are just dumb schmucks.
No wonder Keyes never gets elected to anything.

Clearly, as we can see with Keyes and many other promeninet conservative individuals the remedies cited above are not the elixir that cures all. And are you open that the cause of Maya's current problem may be that she was somehow a victim of abuse?
You've hit on the answer without even realizing it. This "coming out" cr@p for the children of prominent conservatives is all about a cry for attention from the child who feels neglected on a subconscious level because the parent has spent so much time outside the home with other people. The child has felt abandoned in comparison. This is her way of getting "payback."
And don't think that these children aren't specifically targetted by the vile degenerate fiends out there. I'm sure Maya was told by "friends," teachers, and others what a horrible man her father is. Heck, even people on Free Republic say it! She is apparently not strong enough to resist these enemies.
And people wonder why some prominent people guard their children so zealously form the world. Their enemies use them to get to the parents. It's a tactic as old as human history.
I pray that Almighty God will heal Maya Keyes.

Sure. Not speaking to her? Throwing her out of the house? Cut her off financially? That just screams love to me.
Would you call it love if a parent kept giving money to a child who was a drug addict? I call it weakness and enabling the addiction.
Maya Keyes is now a celebrity to the degenerate set. She won't go hungry. She'll become rich and famous, for at least a few years. Once her father is destroyed and she's no longer useful, she'll be cast on the dung-heap by the same set that used her to attack her own father. That's how this work. She's just to young and callow to understand it.
She will someday weep bitter tears for what she does today. Such is the foolishness of youth.

Revelling in another's downfall, eh sink? Does it really give that much pleasure to watch a man suffer the corruption of his child?

But her schooling was at a Conservative Catholic School. For the most part, her education was in a system that would agree with her father's POV. Don't buy that one.

My guess is that Maya Keyes, Phyllis Schlafley's son, and Ronnie Reagan the Lesser (even if he isn't gay) are all taking revenge on their parents for not paying enough attention to them as children.
Give that man a cigar...

Mathew 10:34-37
That is the scripture that keeps coming to my mind.
I agree with Alan Keyes, it is a sin, no matter whether it is my child or not.

I'm sure if Jesus were to reply to your post he'd say, "I'll tell you what's sin and what's not, on a case by case basis." Oh. You're "sure" of that? Well, I'm sure that you only HOPE Jesus would make such a reply.

She said so.
I'm sure he would speak to her if she repented her sins and asked forgiveness, like the prodigal son. She, by her bad actions, has created a situation whereby he can't in good conscience, pretend that life goes on as before.
Some people on this forum seem to think that acting like a phony and enabling bad behavior is the proper course of action. If Dr. Keyes did so, he'd be betraying everything he believes in.
Instead of so viciously criticizing the man during what must be an excruciatingly painful time for him, you should be praying for him and his daughter.

Alan Keyes may have to find some other line of work, as it hard to imagine him not going into political oblivion.
He was targetted for destruction by the political left (in both parties) and they finally got to him through his own daughter. Truly sad.

Does it really give that much pleasure to watch a man suffer the corruption of his child? After what Keyes said about Cheney's daughter, it is poetic justice.

Please forgive me. I'm not trying to badger you, but I really would like a source for your claim the Catholic Church officially recognizes "orientation." (One would presume you mean in the same way as race)
You've made claims in the name of the Church and if you can't substantiate them you really should concede that point.

And my response was the only possible response of a person with any integrity. Because I had just said, right, that gay sexual relations involve selfish hedonism, if I had said, "Well, no, it doesn't apply to her," or I had acted as if I was running away from the question, then I give the impression that, if you're the Vice President's daughter, if you're a Republican, if you're somebody that I care about, or whatever, then the truth doesn't apply to you, and I am a hypocritical elitist who wants to apply truth to others, but not to my own.
Dr. Keyes is right on. He's such a brilliant man. It's painful to watch him suffer for speaking the Truth. But hey, if Our Lord, and St. Paul, and St. Peter, and St. Francis and many others had to suffer for the sake of the Truth, why should Alan Keyes be any different?
"Blessed are you when they persecute you and utter every kind of insult against you because of Me. Your reward in heaven shall be great."
This whole situation is also a great demonstration of those who truly wish to speak the Truth of Christ should be celibate, unmarried men. So their enemies can't use their own children against them.
Benedicat te omnipotens Deus, Dr. Keyes.

I've brougth this up elsewhere on this tread. No one has taken the time to address it.
Of course not. It's much more fun to kick a man when he's down.

Everyone I know, has at least one gay family member. You need to pick some news friends,
Homosexuals compromise less than 2% of the total population AND 2% of that 2% CHOOSE it AND could CHOOSE to reject it

Are you sure he wouldn't? Absolutely. It is the delusions of man that wishes and hopes and prays that the Lord of Glory will view their sins on a "case by case" basis.
