~ MILITARY SHORT SPEAK ~ |
 |
The military seems to have a language of its own, with many terms, Acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world." What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word. What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately. What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word. What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above. Want to know what they are talking about? Read on... |

Maybe I can cheer TK up if I tell the story of my WORST Valentine's Day ever.
Was dating a man 4 years ago, and he treated me like a queen. I really liked him, I guess you could call our relationship semi-serious. We said the "L" word to each other, but I don't think it rang true for either of us.
Anyway, that year, Valentine's Day fell on a Thursday. I got it all, the flowers at work, and then that evening he came over with a armful of gifts. I can't even remember it all, but I know there was a Teddy Bear involved, and some other lovey dovey stuff. But yet, something didn't seem right. I wasn't in love with him, and I knew he was still carrying a torch for the woman who had ditched him.
But in my mind, I was in "Valentine's Day Heaven". Then all of a sudden, he had to go out of town for the weekend. We talked on a daily basis, so I found it strange that I didn't hear from him...Friday, Saturday...or Sunday. I went to work Monday, and shortly after I got home, I got a call from my cousin, who worked for him.
He said, "Ummm, Lisa, I have something to tell you"
I said, "What is it Brad?"
He said, "Well, Mark wanted me to call you."
(By that time, I was seeing the writing on the wall very clearly, kinda)
I said, feigning surprise, "Why does Mark want you to call me, where is he, is he OK?"
He said, "Lisa, please don't be mad at me over this".
(at this point, I was getting really mad at the a$$ for putting my cousin in this position)
I said, "Brad, you can tell me anything. What is it?"
He said, "Mark's ex came back from Florida, it didn't work out with the other guy..and they're back together."
I said, "Brad, honey, I love you..you're family. Just do me a favor. Please tell that *&^^%&^ that the next time he wants to break up with a woman, have the b@lls to do it himself".
We hung up the phone, and I cried...for about a minute. My son heard me, and he came in to check on me. We talked about it, and he reminded me how a man who would treat a woman like that is not a man, and not worthy of my tears. I gave him a big hug, and then we laughed about the whole fiasco.
Like I said, that was 4 years ago. I was so disillusioned after that, I didn't even let a man get close to me, until now. It's taken that long for me to trust again, and that's something I'm still working on. Like the saying goes, you gotta kiss LOTS of FROGS until you meet your Prince (or Princess)......:)

Heel nearly wounds all timers: North Carolina's Jackie Manuel lands on top of scorers, timekeepers and Duke fans while chasing the ball at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C.
Can anyone explain to me why basketball devolved into those stupid, ugly, icky, baggy shorts?

My 1st sgt told me that he was called and told the paperwork was approved. When the hard copy gets to his office he'll call and I'll pick it up. I'll then take the copy to my Navy recruiter and I'll go to the MEPS station for processing. After that I'll be going to school at Pensicolla when there is a slot for me.
