ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Cheech and Chong may have joked about marijuana in their movies, but the comedians say they didn't touch the stuff when the cameras were rolling.
"We tried one time and we wasted so much film," said Tommy Chong, recalling a scene in "Up in Smoke." "We were in the car waiting for the cue, you know. And the camera's rolling and we're sitting there, you know, and neither one of us heard the cue."
Chong and former partner Cheech Marin appeared together for the first time in 20 years at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival.
Chong said he isn't ashamed of introducing millions of Vietnam-era kids to marijuana. "When you think of how many kids died drinking alcohol, I feel I've saved millions of lives," he said.
Marin said their humor was appreciated by an unexpected group: "Cops were our biggest fans. Because they dealt in what we were dealing with everyday, but in reality... they saw the essential humor and they laughed."
Marin and Chong, who recently completed a nine-month sentence for trying to sell marijuana pipes on the Internet, said they are writing two new films, "Grumpy Old Stoners" and "Lord of the Smoke."
Don't smoke and act...
Saw them on AMC this morning on The Shootout with the Peters from Aspen. First I've seen the two of them together in ages. I could've listened to them for another hour or so, but I got the munchies and had to take a nap.
I happened to be channel surfing a couple of years ago and they were together on a show called "Nash Bridges" - Don Johnson was with his partner from Miami Vice on the same show too.
This poor man was SO screwed over.
Millions of illegals running around, politicians shoving classified documents down their pants....Yeah, make sure you lock up the poor guy for selling a piece of equipment you can get in any smoke shop or from most convenience stores!
I feel SO much safer now!!
(sarcasm off)
It's Dave, let me in, man!
Was it so wrong for Chong to sell that bong? Why can't we all just get along?
Sounds like a classic Nash Bridges, I hope I get to see it on a re-run sometime. Cheech Marin was the best part of that show I always thought.
I hope Cheech & Chong will come out swinging against the draconian War On Drugs w/ reckless abandon now that they are back together. I can't wait for the movies to be released!
As a conservative I am furious my hard earned tax dollars are wasted investigating, prosecuting and jailing pot heads.
I can't stand the stench of pot smoke any more than I can stand the stench of tobacco smoke.
What anyone does beyond my ability to smell is their own business.
Legalize pot and everything that goes with it NOW!
That was so funny! Sister Mary Elephant!!
No one else took it. So, I will.
"Hey man. Dave's not here!"
class....Class....
SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you.
Dave's not here...
That was my 8th Grade Math Class to the T!
Class
Class
SHUT-UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we gave our teacher a Massive Nervous Breakdown!
When did selling paraphernalia on the net become illegal?...
From what I understand, Cheech's father is a cop.
I think there was a pound of weed involved...but you have a good point!
