Need Intelligent Freeper Input: Guidelines For Our Prominent Freepers
Source: All of us | 02/11/2005 | By Laz

Posted on 02/11/2005 7:19:23 AM PST by Lazamataz

Recently, two Freepers who have some measure of prominance outside the forum have been damaged by liberals and/or Democrats. Jeff Gannon has resigned as a White House reporter, and the individual who goes by the name NCPAC has left his position in Maryland.

J. Gannon wasn't necessarily damaged by anything he posted here, but NCPAC was damaged by the work of a Democrat mole or a Washington Post reporter who revealed his freepmails.

It should be possible to post on this forum with anonymity and to be able to really discuss what's on your mind without worrying about Democrats trying to ruin your professional life, so, in order to help prominent Republicans who may wish to be an active member of Free Republic, I'm formulating some suggestions that I would like to have new users see.

This is what I have so far, as far as guidelines to help our prominent freepers avoid damage in the future:

If You Are A High-Profile Individual In “Real Life”….

If your daily job is such that you are a high-profile individual – as example, an official in a Republican campaign, or a state official in a Republican administration, or a rightward-leaning reporter – please read this article and take these suggestions.
  1. Please don’t reveal your identity. Please don’t drop hints as to who you are. Please don’t succumb to the temptation to show off a little and thusly compromise your anonymity.

  2. Know that there are Democrat operatives (and now, it appears, Legacy Media reporters) who pretend to be loyal conservatives. They will attempt to get you to reveal damaging information about your candidate, your administration, or your media enterprise.

  3. This is for ALL Freepers: Never reveal any personal contact information. Please don’t post (or share in Freepmail) any email accounts, private phone numbers, addresses, or places of employment – unless you really know and trust the person to whom you are revealing these things.

  4. Know that Freepmail can be, and sometimes is, exposed publicly. Please, never say anything in Freepmail that you would not want posted on the public forum. Please, people, add whatever you think might be helpful, and I will post the result as a new article.

DO: I wish the moderators would do a better job of deleting trolls also

TG: And their posts, too.

They'll be removed from the forum, but they can still be seen.

I have followed both stories via FR closely.

Sorry, you thought "paranoid" was a lame comment, but due to the revolving nature of this site, the amount of new people signing up and basic human nature, I felt is was a way to let FReepers know it was a joke.

There was a time in the past this was a website for serious constitutional / political discussions instead of a glorified chat room.

Not complaining, everything changes, but it used to be a more reflective place when membership was under a 1,000

Members used to know when you were kidding.

Dear davidosborne,

Some of us have found ourselves in positions where to reveal much about ourselves would be to invite some possible problems.

I'm a little (not much) more open now than during the Clinton years, but during that time, I'd have been unhappy to have been identified as a poster on FreeRepublic by some parties.

..... Isn't it funny that the MSM can use and protect unnamed
sources when government information is leaked but have no
problem in mining internet identities?

Oh, yeah. Isn't that the darned truth?!

I get calls all the time from folks I have never met, I get calls from folks I have met, and arrested. Many Deputies do not put their personal cellphone number on their business cards, I DO.

I get calls from citizens that give me information that they would not give to the office on the "recorded line". You can imagine how helpful that is in my occupation.

Where I draw the line is this, don't call my HOME number (unpublished) and don't come to my house (unpublished).

Yahoo and Netscape are not anonymous and would reveal your IP's. Anyone could do a backtrace through samspade.com and find out your location if you use a dial up, and possibly your exact location if you have a cable modem.

Other free and anonymous e-mail services like fastmail.fm or operamail.com do not reveal IP addresses in their full headers.

Fastmail is a great free service and its easy to use. They offer more perks if you upgrade to their pay accounts, but the freebie works just fine for most people.

There was a time in the past this was a website for serious constitutional / political discussions instead of a glorified chat room.

This glorified chatroom as you call FR...was the first with the breaking news on the Space Shuttle.....FR was also first when President Bush went to Baghdad....FR was first to point out Dan Rather was pulling a scam on the American people and trying to bring down a US President .....with fake papers.

So please don't call FR a GLORIFIED chatroom.

Generally, the Admin Moderator will quickly delete a post if you ask.

Yes, true, they are very good. I was just thinking out loud and wondering if there would be any harm in making it available. Since you pointed it out, it might take some work off the Admin Mod to allow more time to better search for trolls, but then again, it may not be all that common a thing anyway. You made me LOL when you said you posted your real name...

That stuff about cops having to say they are if asked is not true and an urban legend.

In fact the SCOTUS has ruled that cops are allowed to lie and use deceit to get a confession, obtain information, and/or make an arrest. I've seen plenty of "Cops" episodes where they do vice stings on hookers and when she asks 'em if they're cops they say "no" and she gets busted anyway.

Its amazing what you can learn about criminal procedure by watching "Law and Order", lol!
