Scandal Puts Focus On Role of Bloggers (WaPo on FR, NCPAC and MD4Bush)
Washington Post ^ | 02/11/05 | David Snyder and Matthew Mosk

Posted on 02/10/2005 10:41:44 PM PST by conservative in nyc

The Web site began as a sort of Internet boutique for like-minded conservatives and libertarians, suspicious of federal power and angry at President Bill Clinton.

Started in 1997 by a reclusive California conservative, freerepublic.com saw its membership blossom with Clinton's impeachment and the election of George W. Bush. Attention to the site reached a zenith last fall, when a "freeper" -- the group's moniker for its bloggers -- first discussed flaws in documents CBS News used in a report critical of Bush's National Guard service.

---Snip---

One participant working under the handle MD4BUSH, whose identity is unknown, drew Steffen into a private conversation and appeared to coax him to share more details about his role in spreading the rumor. Copies of those chat room e-mails were later provided to The Washington Post.

The Oct. 18 conversation began with MD4BUSH complimenting Steffen and saying how obvious it was that the rumors about the mayor were true. Steffen, writing under the name NCPAC, replied:

"I don't look for the MO'M [O'Malley] story to hit for a little bit yet. . . . However, a lot of what everyone knows about MO'M is because of work that has occurred. It's been a wild ride."

MD4BUSH later probed further:

"Your saying that my dentist knows [about the rumors] because of work you did? Wow, I must say, I'm impressed. I mean really, everyone knows -- how did that happen?"

I remember Sarah McClendon, her writings. Which admin banned her? Or was it the press "credentialing" corp? Or pressies?

Yep.. lol. "Peasants in PJs".

But this then raises a very serious question: If a Freep Poster posts while being nude, can anyone who reads his post file "indecent exposure" charges against him? File "creating environment charges"? "Sexual Harassment"? (grinning, running, and ducking) I mean... I look at that O'Mally/NCPAC stuff, and I wonder...

...flaws in documents CBS News used in a report

or how about:

"CBS News attempting to influence a presidential election by promoting fraudulent documents provided by the DNC!"

The Washington Post calls you "a reclusive California conservative", Jim.

Hardly consider Jim Robinson reclusive ... going back to the Fall of 1998 (October 31)FreeRepublic staged a very well attended March for Justice rally on the Mall in Washington. Attendance was estimated to be somewhere in the vicinity of 5 thousand (that would be touted as a half million if it were any other group), with FReepers coming from nearly every state in the Union. The 'reclusive' Jim Robinson was very much in evidence, giving a welcome speech on a stage erected for the event. He was just one of many featured speakers. The March for Justice rally was covered in its entirety by C-SPAN and virtually ignored by the Washington Post.

Is it possible this is all stemming from past resentments from those in the liberal coalitions against conservative bloggers/websites? The publicizing of "aggregious offenders" in MSM or MSM articles or non-MSM articles email addresses? or phone numbers? Could be. This could all be the MSM's way of payback, by quoting posters in here and then "doing digging" to find out their "Guckert" (Guckart?)

More than possible, highly likely. They've been exposed on numerous occasions as highly biased to the left, even to the deteriment of our country...they withhold information they otherwise wouldn't if that information would hurt the liberal agenda; they publish information that they otherwise wouldn't if it would hurt the liberal agenda; if it hurst the conservative agenda, they publish information, knowing full way that they haven't verified their sources or know that their sources have an ax to grind, making it glaringly obivious they are using an otherwise questionable source....as we saw in the Rathergate episode, for instance.

Who is Michael Olesker? Did he just slip up here -- BIG TIME? Or is he just wrong about MD4BUSH's identity?

Could be that or he could have heard a rumor

It would be a little ironic having a columnist spread a rumor in a column decrying rumor-mongering.

My best guess is this Olesker guy's just sloppy. According to research by kcvl on this thread (in the 200s), Governor Ehrlich thinks he's been misquoted by this guy before.

Many very explicit and pointed comments were made by me and others in August and September surrounding the time of the SwiftVets, and in conjunction with that incident, as to how this is now a true battle between the Old Media and the New Media.

I meant it then, and I hope everyone here understands that.

Only one will remain standing at the end of this battle.

Yikes!

Of course I meant MD4Bush!

If MD4Bush is still here management should simply ask him if he's a plant.

We may not get an honest answer but a non-response would be very suspicious.

Oh, Alia, I'm blushing.

;-)

I'll get the handcuffs.

Seriously, if you run across more threads on this topic, feel free to ping me. This is a very important matter over the next years.

Laz -- I think yours is excellent: with only one exception. Your rules are applicable to everyone regardless of their being "high profile" or not. Take for example, that couple that was roughed up by Union Thugs. These are not "high profile"; but yet, given the current status of the MSM/Dem/Liberal mindset, if this couple had posted on, say, a thread blasting AFL-CIO, I've no doubts Union lawyers would try to use it as "See! This couple went specifically to that even with "chaos" on their minds". Again, your rules are applicable to EVERYONE in this forum.

And given that IP numbers are available, it shouldn't be too hard to track TROLLS, either.

Either a sensible discussion, a panel with MSM, bloggers, freepers takes place, or it becomes a civil war; which is of course what Liberals really want. In the liberal mindset, they'd like nothing better: War on American Soil. And because "evil" America deserves it. Dittos on their same "want" in cyber, and in re the news.

Nothing more, just yet, to add to your list.

Olesker is despised by many as a total loser. Vile leftist reporting at its worst. The Baltimore Sun like the NY Slimes finds itself in a circulation decline. As people become better informed due to the "New Media" old liberal rags find it harder and harder to push their dribble on the masses. Another dinosaur in its death throws.
