Today, apology drains regret of responsibility Ehrlich says none needed because he didn't know By Andrew A. Green Sun Staff

Originally published February 10, 2005 Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. insists he knew nothing about a staff member's spreading allegations online about Mayor Martin O'Malley's personal life. He immediately demanded the man's resignation and has publicly repudiated his actions.

But when usually Ehrlich-friendly local talk radio took up the issue of longtime aide Joseph Steffen's actions yesterday morning, the buzz was that the governor needed to do one more thing: Say he's sorry.

"He should apologize for what [Steffen] did," WBAL morning host Chip Franklin said on his show yesterday.

Ehrlich said yesterday that he told Steffen to apologize immediately to the mayor, and Ehrlich said he would not issue a personal apology to O'Malley.

Senator Frosh is clearly an AlQaida apoligist, right along with O'Malley. These two would be better off spending their time consulting with lawyers to prepare their defense at their treason trial. 2 posted on 02/10/2005 8:24:40 AM CST by muawiyah ((how cynical can we sound today))

I guess they missed this "little" issue.

"He should apologize for what [Steffen] did," WBAL morning host Chip Franklin said on his show yesterday.

This explains why no one listens to WBAL morning host Chip Franklin here in Baltimore.

The Gov should say that he will apologize when O'Malley apologies for his pro terrorist remarks.

The BS is trying to divert attention.

'Sorry' has long been drained of significant meaning thanks to political correctness making folks afraid to call a spade ought but a digging implement.

that's not going far enough - I think the Governor should resign in shame. How DARE he hire someone with a personal life. HOW DARE HE! And he should also personally apologize to the ex of anyone who worked on his staff when they were divorced, since it was probably his fault.

On second thought, Steffen didn't spread any rumors, here or anywhere else, so maybe this report isn't all that credible.

a staff member's spreading allegations online

this statement is false, demonstrably false, and intended to effect injury = actionable in court of law

Doesn't that writing imply that Chip Franklin is conservative, but isn't he a liberal?

How ironic that this newspaper intentionally misleads the public in an article where they demand Ehrlich apologize for his staff member allegedly misleading the public.

Diogenes is still searching in vain for one honest liberal...

this is beginning to irritate me.

I have read the thread here on FR to which the MSM refers, and NCPAC did NOT spread any allegations.

these are outright falsehoods, easily exploded.

either the media has (once again) not bothered to fact-check, or they are deliberately lying.

can we, the public, not SUE those who deliberately misinform yet claim to be "news outlets"?

I mean, aside from slander and libel, is this not a violation of the truth in advertizing laws?

I just posted this on another thread on this subject:

I posted one of the first questions about the rumor in Baltimore about the mayor (note to lurking Dems & MSM my Fr name is Elkiejg). Being a former MD resident with family and friends there, I'm in contact on a regular basis. A friend who lives there was the first one to tell me that the rumor was the "buzz" on the street. I posted that on FR and asked if anyone had heard it or had more info. Sorry I don't have the original link - but that's when NCPAC had some posts - BUT HE DID NOT SPREAD OR START THE RUMOR!!

When I first heard the rumor I checked the talk forums for the Balto. Sun newspaper and found that this was something that had been discussed for some time - wasn't news to them at all.

Now that the Balto. Sun is leading with this story, their talk forums are loaded with comments (another note to lurking MSM - do your homework, read these forums!!) - quite a few damning NCPAC and right-wingers. HOWEVER, there are some posting the info that this not new news - one poster was told of the mayor's flings by cops. One said it's common knowledge around city hall. Another said, just ask the cops - they know everything.

So if this is common knowledge around Baltimore, has been topic of conversation on the Balto. Suns talk forums -- why is O'Malley and the Dems making such a fuss now? Could it be this is a smoke screen for some revealing facts which can or could see the light of day? SOMETHING SMELLS HERE.

Just sent the Balto. Sun the following:

Concerning Andrew Green's column "Apology drains...." and any other reporter following the mayor story -- for heavens sake, do your homework - read your own forums. The knowledge/rumor about the mayor's fun and games has been discussed on your forums for months and months. Ask the cops - they know. Ask your city hall employees - they know.

It's all damage control and what better way than to get the Governor embroiled in the situation. O'Malley needs to get this over with before it is raised next year. If the rumors were to be proven next year, any chance at running for governor would be history. Let's bring it out now and show that they aren't just rumors.
