PING!
This is on in the House right now.............(C-span1)
Don't worry guys, "it can't happen here".
I live in California where they want to give illegals state ID and drivers' licenses. From my point of view this is a responsible act by the Federal government to the inconsistent, irresponsible, and suicidal morons who run liberal state governments.
I wish it were not necessary because we ARE losing freedoms here.
I'd also like to see a one time total background check including eye scan for all Americans willing to have it done with the resultant holographics included on the card.
Let the complainers, the devious, the bewildered, the illegal aliens, and the uninformed wait for two hours at hoped for more intelligent and stricter airport checks.
The guy behind it is Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI). I pretty much trust his judgement. He is my congressman
I don't have a problem with
1. Establish a national ID card.
We all already have a SS card, and driver's licenses. But the other three,
The Republican party won't go for it. Right?
1. Establish a national ID card.
2. Establish a federally-coordinated database of personal information on American citizens with Canada and Mexico.
3. Use the new national ID to track American citizens when traveling outside the U.S. -- and within the U.S.
4. Re-define "terrorism" in broad new terms that could include members of firearms rights and pro-life groups or other such groups as determined by whoever is in power at the time.
5. Authorize the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to unilaterally expand the information included in driver's licenses, including such biometric information as retina scans and DNA information -- and even radio frequency identification (RFID) tracking technology. Carry a drivers license with RFID and governmental officials will know your whereabouts 24/7.
Show me.
Not that this is any sort of definitive characterization of the effort to defeat this Bill, but I saw correspondance written by Grover Norquist, Jr., a known appeaser of Islamist front groups, that had an identical point of view. Certainly, there may be issues with this Bill, I'll not debate it here. But I found it interesting that a guy like Norquist, who may well have something major to hide, would have come out against it.
It may also be a legitamate Voters dream.
You need to read the bill and listen to the debate on NOW on CSPAN. I normally like the liberty committee but this is a lot of overreaction. It does not establish a national ID card.
The bill the dems want does establish a national ID.
Please look at this a little further.
Sorry, but I am not opposed to have a better National ID. We should at least wait and take a look at it. It is a different time after 9/11. We all have to sacrifice some of our liberty just to be better protected.
MHO
I think I'll just get mine put on my forehead or the back of my right hand (/sarcasm).

Read for yourself.
I have a better idea: Let's line up and shoot all the busybodies and snoops.
As far as I'm concerned, my liberty's well enough protected by the 9mm on my bedside table and the .357 in the closet. When people like you start telling people like me what we HAVE to sacrifice, that's when things start going downhill.
