You need to read the bill and listen to the debate on NOW on CSPAN. I normally like the liberty committee but this is a lot of overreaction. It does not establish a national ID card.
The bill the dems want does establish a national ID.
Please look at this a little further.

I watched the debate on C-span, it is NOT a national ID card. The best argument the oppostion could come up with is the paragraph that overrides the courts in the building of the last 3.5 miles of fence along the CA/Mex border.
I heard the arguments and am in favor of HR418, and plan on letting my rep's know that.

We have 50 separate state ID cards. There's no need for people to carry a federal card. But there's a pressing need for a federal database to weed out fraud, abuse and gaming the drivers' license system for nefarious or criminal purposes. This bill does that and requires states to establish safeguards for drivers' licenses, among them, keeping them out of the hands of illegal aliens. In this day and age, its important to do everything we can to protect our borders.
