Pardon the vanity but I believe this will make for an intriguing thread.
I have been following rather closely this I-Pod phenomenon with interest. There was a piece in USA Today last week where they compare the I-Pod users with cult members. One 20 something was quoted as saying "my I-Pod changed my life." IMHO, that means this individual was in serious need of a life.
Now follow me here. Libs complain about those of us in the "radical religious Right." However, it is my observation that the Left is just as religious as any Evangelical,Conservative Catholic or devout Jew. They just worship God's creations not God himself.
They have their own Churches. PETA,NOW,ACLU, Greenpeace,AIM, et al. They have clergy-Shrinks. They have condoms for Rosary beads... Follow. I think I-Pods are now part of their religion. Apple?
Notice I didn't say MP3 player. It has to be an I-Pod. Otherwise, it's like water and Holy Water. Won't work.
Now, I happen to believe MP3 players are definitely nifty gadgets. I am researching the purchase of one for myself. However, they are gadgets not lifechanging experiences. I have no doubt many freepers own I-Pods. I also have little doubt you are more than what is on you I-Pod.
Hmmm..., I think that's what the DUmmies say about the "Freepmoonie idiots" over here on Free Republic. Same kind of "thinking"....?

"Many of them post right here on FR.
( I know, I am a Mac user)"
Amen..., preach it brother!

Come to think about it..., YEAH, they all changed my life (all except Windows XP, that's like catching a human virus in computer form...).
And I suppose they all have a "liberalizing effect" -- speaking in the old way of "liberal". They allowed me to be more liberally conservative.

You know what's going to happen next with Mac Mini? Someone is going to come up with a classy, larger, redesigned case to put the guts of the Mac Mini in. And then you're going to have a real "cult following" with that "Mini". I can see it coming down the road.
Any takers on that one?

Don't "Bork" that 'pod"

That is soooo unfair that you created the coolest name on FR I have ever seen (unless of course you somehow were involved with the "evolution" of Wesley Crusher)
I, 'Pod, am not liberal.
I'm kicking myself now that I didn't buy a used original Imac for $150 at a computer show. It was stripped down but worth a $150.
Sounds like something that the DUmmies would say about the Republicans and the U.S. Government -- now that they are the minority in everything.
"We need to split up the different branches of government between the Republicans and Democrats to make it more efficient, fair and representative of the American people. Only by 'obstructing government' can we truly be efficient and truly represent the will of the American people."
Yeah sure, splitting it up really makes it more efficient.
Some people will argue for inefficiencies in computers, too -- in order to carry the foolish argument that it makes them better computers. Ha!! At least Apple didn't listen to such foolish arguments. Only Microsoft is the true obstructionist of the computer world.

Star Traveler
Ahhh..., a true believer... :-)
Thanks, I kinda like it, too! Hey..., I've got that program "Starry Night" -- a very cool program. I bet you'd like it.

You know..., I've stil got my 1998 original iMac (actually version 2, a slight bit better). I wouldn't get rid of it. It was truly revolutionary... (come back, Che, we need you....! NOT! :-0 ).
I'm doing better, these days, with my flat-panel iMac (aka "Lamp"). Next is coming the "all-in-the-screen" G5 iMac! Can't wait...

"Amen..., preach it brother!"
Umm... I think you're making the original poster's point for him!
You said -- "Some people will argue for inefficiencies in computers, too -- in order to carry the foolish argument that it makes them better computers. Ha!! At least Apple didn't listen to such foolish arguments.."
You must have me mistaken with someone else. I pointed out that apple has added firmware to the ipod to jam the use of music from all other major music sites. Other companies of major players do not.
I have no idea how you read this as having something to do with windows or the u.s. government. You also seem to be putting words in my mouth that I did not say by italicizing some irrelevent gibberish about the government. While I can decipher your tortured argument, the analogy seems to support the opposite conclusion that you've reached.
have fun with your restricted choice of music.
It's the largest selection around that I can find and that exists. No one else has that many as in iTunes. And then when you add in all the extra music you put in with your own CDs and any other mp3s -- you've got an unbeatable combination. I haven't found the end to the selection of music, yet -- with iPod.
Someone has fed you "a line" with the "incompatibility issue". Read post #72 again. I think you missed it. Can't get much better than that -- unless one wants to use some crippled Microsoft stuff (and who would want to do that?).

Star Traveler
That's a good thing...right?
Well, if one doesn't know it has something to do with Windows (aka Microsoft), then there's no use explaining the "French connection". I suppose that kind of ignorance is why a lot of people are blindly led like sheeple into a Microsoft Windows hell-hole. One day, they will see the light (or die in frustration -- one or the other).
With the U.S. Government -- well, you must not be very political. Wrong board, eh?

Star Traveler
No, I believe it's a very, very bad thing. But my DVD player would disagree.
"Someone has fed you "a line" with the "incompatibility issue". "
The only 'line' I'm getting is from the star traveler. Have fun with your restricted choice of music and your mp3 player that's incompatible with MSN, Musicmatch, Napster, Rhapsody, Walmart, Buymusic and MusicRebellion among others because Apple programmed the firmware to be incompatible with it.
You should get a gig writing ad copy for the pod. I'm sure plenty of people would buy the 'line.'
Yep, you're right..., Free Republic does have a lot of Mac people.
Regards,
Star Traveler
Hmmm..., so you're saying that if I start writing, then I can get today's 80% marketshare for iPod to about 98% marketshare? Would that mean you would still be in the remaining two percent not getting an iPod?
Now that might be an idea!
