Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley yesterday accused agents of Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s administration of spreading false rumors that he had an extramarital affair, and Ehrlich responded hours later by dismissing a longtime employee.
The mayor, a Democrat considering a bid for governor in 2006, said he believes that the widespread and persistent rumors were part of a "concerted and orchestrated and sustained" effort and called on the Republican governor to apologize to his wife and children. "I don't think any of us run for office expecting that this sort of hurt will be heaped on our kids or our spouses," O'Malley said.
Ehrlich said an apology was premature and denied any personal involvement in spreading the rumor. He then asked for and received the resignation of Joseph Steffen, a longtime aide working in state government. Steffen confirmed yesterday that he had discussed the rumor on a popular conservative Web site and in private e-mails, which were given to The Washington Post.

This was not just his identity.
This was likely a CRIME, similar to someone having an illegally-recorded phone call.
The Post had a copy of an email (maybe it was a FReepmail?).
I'm thinking that a state employee put a keystroke logger on his work computer or spyware or an IT dept person collect detailed logs on his computer use. Either that or a recipient of the email/FReepmail was a mole or that person's computer was compromised by spyware or something else.
I'm NOT disputing that it was a crime....I stated that IMHO you have to assume that discovery is inevitable, I one wants the info bad enough....if you leavbe your hosue witht he doors and windows wide opeb,,you'll probably get robbed. It's still a crime..but you have to assume it's likely to happen..
You're getting Freepmail in a few minutes.
The lamestream media wants to stalk us and show how 'biased' we are and that we can't be trusted to actually make the news when they won't.
Is anyone else emboldened by this? This gets me really jacked that we're being paid so much attention (hello there lurkers!)
On identifying screennames - my username pares it down to about 28 people in the last 15 years of Institute history. Read a couple of my posts way back when and you'll figure me out in now time. But I have nothing to hide and don't work in the political arena, so I'm not expecting my identity to be a problem.
(That being said, I have been more vigilant lately about keeping personal info off my posts. Remember, we're fair game like Mary Cheney.)
:)
I think of a line from a film - 'when you're smart, people need you.'
When they're trying to assasinate your character, you must be doing the right thing!
Don't think we haven't noticed...NOAM!!!
:0)
-good times, G.J.P.(Jr.)
He started sending me freepmail asking were I lived. I put two and two together and resigned from Free Republic and signed up again under this screen name. If he was able to narrow it down to the town were I lived it would have been pretty simple for him to get my name because of his having friends in the military.
As far as I know I'm the only retired military type from my branch of service with the same rank living here. It's a small town.
Anyway if he'd remained hot under the collar he could have made it, my military pension disappear at least temporarily in a heartbeat.
You may be saying to yourself that I'm being paranoid.
Well better to be paranoid then in the poorhouse stuck overseas in a foreign country without a paddle....... [grin]....
Right. And I agree with what you posted before. Just was taking it one step further.
Best of Luck!
If there were bots on his computer or something, I think that would be a crime - or it will be soon if the laws get updated, although I'm in favor of keeping the Feds away from the internet by any means necessary.
So now that Buckhead and NCPAC have been outed - who the hell is Deep Throat???
Ok, you got me.
Now on with the Revolution! Susan, fetch the red bandanas...Susan? Are you still with us?
I know, because I had to change my screen name-under my previous account-because of persistent harassment by this odious fellow.
He earned a prominent-but decidedly unfavorable-mention on my previous profile page.
First David Horowitz converted to the right, now Sontag is gone...who's left in the pantheon on the American left with Noam?
Don't tell me Kathleen Soliyah will be promoted to matriarch.
JUst curious..what would would do about spam, which IMHO is close to killing the net? You can't rely on technology for two reasons..the spammers keep jumping ahead..and the really smart people, who mgth figure out a solution, IMHO won't waste their time developig something they'd have to give away..NO, the feds have to get involved, like they did with the DO NOT CALL stuff...That has been wonderful..I haven't ahd a telemarketer call the house since we signed up..used to eb the phone rang nonstop during dinner..
I don't like the implications of this as far as it concerns posting on the internet.
I read NCPA'C comments from the link on post #9, and as far as I can tell, he only commented on the rumor. In fact, he didn't even offer an opinion on it, but only stated that he had heard it.
He also posted under an anonymous name, which would give his opinion, if he offered one, or his comments, no more validity or weight than any other comment on the thread.
NCPA did not initiate the thread. It seems that NCPA's right to privacy was broken, AFAIC'd.
I hope you come through all this intact, but CYA - you know how the Rats operate when they have been wounded.
Won't he know who you are now that you've reviewed your history?
you live? I thought you rode the lightning a year or so ago.
