‘A Life’s Work’: Planned Parenthood's Gloria Feldt on why she’s stepping down
Newsweek ^ | 28Jan 05 | Debra Rosenberg

Feldt: ‘We have to frame reproductive rights as human rights’

NEWSWEEK: Why are you suddenly leaving now? Gloria

Feldt: I honestly have been talking with the board for six months or more about the fact that it was time for me to be making a transition and that we needed to start thinking about that. We have been engaged in those discussions more seriously for the past few months. I came to do this for five years and here it is nine years. I will always be supporting Planned Parenthood. Everything will be fine. Planned Parenthood will be fine.

NEWSWEEK: Is this part of a generational change within the pro-choice movement? NARAL president Kate Michelman left last year.

Gloria Feldt: There probably is some of that. The great thing about Planned Parenthood is that there’s so much strength and so much leadership all throughout this organization. This is not a sprint. It’s not even a marathon. This is a relay race. You do your lap and you pass on the baton to the next person. That’s the way it works. For my own part, I feel so fortunate that I have been able to make my life’s passion my life’s work. I am proud of everything we have done in my tenure. The national organization’s budget has doubled. We have become proactive in our advocacy work. We have been passing legislation like contraception equity and now [Harry] Reid’s plan to improve family planning. Those are the kinds of things that are at the heart and soul of what Planned Parenthood is all about. We certainly have many threats today. There is a war on choice. But we have grown our political base and our political strengths. I want to devote myself to writing and speaking in my own voice.

I saw this quote:
The prevention agenda is so important. It is the morally right thing to do...Once they start talking about prevention in a serious way in Congress, it will show the extreme right for the radicals they are. They want to eliminate birth control and family planning programs as well as abortion.

..in the dead tree edition of Newsweek. Between this and Harry Reid's coments about helping the world before the "next generation of Bin Ladens" grows up, it looks like they're making a change in strategy, making the "we want fewer abortions and to help the poor" fiction the primary effort.

Planned Parenthood's Gloria Feldt resigned because she just surpassed Stalin as history's greatest mass murderer.

I mean with that honor, what more can you do? She wants to retire and spend more quality time with her beloved hobby of pulling body parts off adorable little kittens with a set of pliers.

"Everything will be fine."

That's right. Just lie back and relax. Let the doctor do his work. You won't feel a thing. The decision to kill your child won't make one bit of difference to your life in the long run. /sarcasm

Why are you suddenly leaving now?

Rush said what everybody was really thinking: You know ahead of time the answer is NOT gonna be "to spend time with the family!!"

Just had to put that note in....

"You have insight and a good heart."

Thanks. I can get really wrapped around the axle on this abortion issue and the "women" that want it to be convenient and with no consequence.

Having been duped myself by the FemiNazis, I've tried to help other young women not make the same stupid mistake I did, way back when.

Hey, now, that wasn't ME that stole it. It was El Rushbo.

Wish I'd thought of it first, tho....

I'm so sorry to hear that, Diana. How are you doing? Were you able to get help and support?

Actually, it was 26 years ago. And I have been blessed with three wonderful kids in my life since then, so that has helped.

It never really occured to me to "get help" or "support" to tell you the truth. The magnitude of my actions and the "sham" that abortion is didn't really start to sink in until I became more politically active about five years ago.

The best I can do is to work to stop the lies of the pro-abortionists (they're not "pro-choice" in my eyes) through my dollars and my feet and my vote. :) I'd encourage others to do so, too.
