CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- Sweet drinks -- whether Kool-Aid with sugar or all-natural apple juice -- seem to raise the risk of pudgy preschoolers getting fatter, new research suggests.
That may come as a surprise to parents who pride themselves on seeking out fruit drinks with no added sugar.
"Juice is definitely a part of this," said lead researcher Jean Welsh of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Here we go again. Somehow, we *survived the perils* of the 50s and 60s, but the goobermint socialist activists are fully intent on controlling our lives.
I fondly remember juice, crackers and afternoon naps on my little rug, in kindergarten.

Funny, I remember drinking a lot of milk and very little juice.

i wonder when they link fat kids to lack of exercise.
of course you got to drink juice and eat crackers. That was before the teachers got sued for giving out juice and crackers.

I think juice is not to blame so much as the remote control, or say, Nintendo controllers. Nothing against TV or video games, but throw the kid outside at least once a day!
And no, I'm not some bitter old fart complaining about "kids these days." I'm a 19 year old senior in college.

I don't remember drinking much juice either, maybe a little orange juice with breakfast. I do remember getting slices of fruit for snacks, but not juice. Of course, this was loooooong before the advent of "juice boxes", which are much more convenient than Mom having to take the time to cut up some fruit for little toddler's hands.

for 3- and 4-year-olds already on the heavy side, drinking something sweet once or twice a day doubled their risk of becoming seriously overweight a year later. The sweet drinks seemed to have little effect, however, on children of normal weight.Maybe it's not the juice.

Did you have all that crap in the juice drinks today?
You wouldn't believe all the weight you could lose by just substituting juice for water.

Whew, glad to know it's the juice and not hours a day on 150 cable channels or video and computer games.

LOL! I don't think they even do that juice-crackers-naps routine anymore, do they?

I remember that we had a small 'fridge in the classroom, and the teacher would provide saltines, animal crackers and juice for everyone. Later, when I started carrying my own lunchbox, Mom would always include a banana or orange or apple as part of the lunch fare. (I used to trade away the fruit for something else, with one of my classmates. But don't tell her...)

I doin't think the juices, back in the 50s, had all the *fortified* ingredients in them, as they do today. I just don't remember reading any labels at 4 years old.

I didn't go to kindergarten as a kid, I'm not sure they even existed way back then! LOL! When I started school, Mom would send me off with a lunch box with cartoon figures - sandwich, fruit, maybe a cookie or two if she were in a particularly good mood. And I won't tell your Mom about your trades...
