Howard Dean poised to become new Democratic leader Todd S. Purdum New York Times Published February 6, 2005 WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A funny thing happened to Howard Dean on his way to becoming a losing footnote in the Democratic Party's past: He gained a winning foothold on its future. So there he was at Cafe Milano, Georgetown's power joint, buying a meal on Wednesday night for Terry McAuliffe, the man he is all but certain to succeed as party chairman this week. "A lot of people came by the table to congratulate him," recalled McAuliffe, who said Dean had invited him to what became a three-hour dinner to discuss the party's operations. "And he said, 'No, no, not till the vote's over.' But I did tell him, 'You are about to become a human fire hydrant. You will get blamed for every loss. You will get zero credit for any win.' "

Well, that can be construed as an honest warning about less pleasant aspects of the job.

I think the phrase "human fire hydrant" is what the poster was referring to.

I think "human fire hydrant" describes Mr. McAwful very well.

As much as I hate to see McAwful leave the DNC, they couldn't have come up with a better replacement than "EEEEAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH" Dean. Of course, I'm a Republican. ;^)
To: 68skylark
I actually feel a little sorry for the Democrats, but just a little.

Some things are meant to be urinated on. Dimocrats are just one of those things. ;)
