BROWNSTOWN, Ind. — Two men have been charged in connection with the abduction and slaying of a 10-year-old girl whose body was found in a creek, authorities said. Charles Hickman, 20, charged with murder and criminal confinement in the death of Katlyn Collman, told investigators her abduction was intended to scare the girl into keeping quiet about methamphetamine activities in her neighborhood, prosecutors said.
The suspect did not speak to reporters as he was led into a courthouse for a hearing Friday. Another man, Timothy C. O'Sullivan (search), 22, was awaiting a hearing Friday on charges he allegedly gave false information to officers investigating the case.
Court documents filed by prosecutors said that Collman drowned about 15 miles from her hometown of Crothersville. Her body was found Sunday and she had last been seen five days earlier as she walked three blocks home from an errand to buy toilet paper. Hickman told investigators that Collman was brought to his home by the residents of an apartment near the store where she had shopped, the documents alleged. He said the residents were worried Collman had seen them producing or using methamphetamine and that she might tell others what she had seen, according to the documents. "They decided to scare her with the hope that she would be intimidated enough to keep her observations to herself," FBI gent James Kouns wrote in an affidavit.
Prosecutors allege that Hickman tied the girl's hands behind her back. Hickman first told investigators the girl tried to run away and fell into the creek, but also said he might have "bumped" her into the water. Prosecutors had not decided whether to seek the death penalty against Hickman.

I would sure like to "scare" these dirtballs. I heard they are being kept in solitary to keep them away from the other inmates. Maybe the guards need to "forget" to lock their cell doors.
I did a serach for this article and could not find it, maybe not enough coffee, but even so - this needs posting at least twice.
Meth seems the most evil of all the offerings on the drug scene. The war on drugs needs be broadened and deepend. I think some of the middle eastern states, Allah soil their souls, prescribe death for posession and are quick about the execution. Never thought I would find favor with an Islamist.
BTW, although this is the first killing in Crothersville in ages, all you have to do is raise your sights a tad, include Austin in the survey area, and you'll find that one of my cousins was murdered several years back by a crazed methamphetamine maker/user.
There have been a couple of child killings in and around Seymour, just North of these two places, where methamphetamine use seems to have been involved.
The cops in the ara have recently been moving aggressively against the methamphetamine makers after years of inattention ~ probably due to the fact that several principle politicians in the area who had close relatives or girlfriends in the business lost re-election bids.
Unfortnately the cops still allow entirely too many of their informants (known methamphetamine users) to stay in business. Possibly this murder will precipitate some changes in law enforcement's approach.
I'm ready willing and able, Indiana still has the death penalty, I can't think of a better reason for utilizing it.
You can never, every stop meth. No legislation, no broadening of law enfforcement powers, no restriction of our liberties can ever stop an addictive drug that any goober can make in their own garage.
Meth is here to stay, sadly.

This is the second murder meth related case I hear around Indiana. Being cause of death while comiting a felony is first degree murder there.
Could get messy.
I have no problem reducing the available pool of meth users. Drug Court/Treatment seems like a reasonable method, but who knows...(although it sure seems to have worked for El Rushbo)
He wasn't using meth.
I could lean libertarian when it comes to pot --- but when the pro-drug side comes on here and claims meth would be safe if only all drugs were made legal, I go into reverse on the libertarian thing. You can tell by looking at them that meth addicts are unsafe.
They say it's almost impossible --- 95% of meth addicts cannot recover from their addiction.

maybe he'll get life in prison and his roomy will be a guy who killed the man who hurt his daughter...sadly, that would probably be the only way justice will be served...unless, of course, Indianna isn't stingy with the death sentence...
That's fine but meth won't stop because of any law. Better to arrest people and put them in for a long period of time when they commit ANY crime. Do that and maybe you can catch someone before they are fully enslaved to it.

I wouldn't compare Rush Limbaugh or Betty Ford for that matter to some wacked out speed freaks who murder little girls.
