a bit OT here but i watched the segment on SS w/ JC Watts (I think Watts did a terrible job of articulating a defense for Bush): I'd like to know why no one is pointing out that in his SOTU speech, Bush said "A, B & C & D have been offered as solutions to the SS crisis. I think we should do X, but ALL ideas are on the table, ALL ideas are solicited and I want ideas from everyone. This needs to be solved in a bi-partisan fashion...."

Everyone is acting like the idea HE prefers is the only one that will be countenanced. Bush said here's what I think, if you have a better idea, bring it on.

Everyone's running around attacking or defending Bush's plan but NO ONE is talking about their own plan or solution.

While Bush is running around the country selling his plan, opponents are wasting their time bashing it instead of coming up with and promoting their own (better?) plan.

Then they're going to whine "Bush is ramming it down our throats UNILATERALLY. We need a filibuster..." or some such nonsense.

I was listening to the "Tony Snow Radio Show" a little while ago, Tony wasn't on, Steve Doocy was, but he had Col. Hunt on---

Col. Hunt said he knows this Gen. Mattis--he said Mattis has never fought--he wasn't in Vietnam and has always been a General at Afghanistan and Iraq---he never fought, that is why he talked like that.

He said that troops that truly DO fight and "like" killing the enemy would NEVER talk about it. That only the ones that don't do the killing talk about it.

Yesterday during a hearing with the GAO, Hillary said that Bush is trying to "pull the rug out from under the Social INSURANCE program".

They have all taken the talking point that he is trying to just get rid of Social Security--

And Hillary's husband in 1998---was saying the exact same thing that Bush is saying, but NOW Hillary is saying that Bush is making up the "crisis"...

I do believe this toughening is meant to help them deal with what they do, as well as for their own self preservation. Reality is that if you kill someone, you're going to have some after effects, because despite what these people are saying we don't turn them into blood thirsty killers.

The problem with 'nam was that they were trained to kill, served their country honorably, then were labeled killers when they returned home. Imagine having your friends, your family and your country think you are no better than someone like saddam. That screwed a lot of good men up, and those activists have blood on their hands.

I think you would mentally damage a young man or even a woman if you train them to fight---but then on the other hand have them be told that they can't with "good consciences" kill another person because it is cruel---

How would they be able to live the rest of their lives (if they are fortunate enough to survive a war)---do you think this crap that has been spewed since Vietnam could be one of the reasons that the military has had to add more programs for troops when they return home to kind of keep them from having emotional problems?

Precisely! Everyone exposed to war trauma has an acute reaction to it. That is what saves your ass.

You depersonalize your enemy so you can react to life threatening situations. You don't have the luxury of having feelings. You pause, you are dead. It is that simple.

However, when what you mention above happens to returning warriors, we tend to get caught up in the shame of civilian life mores being applied to war time actions. Hence we shut up. We keep it in. We don't process the emotions of what we saw, what we did to stay alive. The acute reaction becomes Chronic PTSD which is really a neurological disorder (the adrenal system/hormonal system becomes screwed up and sort of fries the brain).

Liberals do not understand this, as the bulk of them have no combat experience.

After 30+ years of staying in a survival mode, I finally consented to taking meds for PTSD a few years ago. I take about 8 medications daily just to function. I am still 70% disabled according to the Veterans Administration.

This disability will not stop until I am dead and buried.

Thats why liberals piss me the f**k off.

One more thing---I saw Bob Shrum on Hardball (I think) and he was debating the SS with Pat Toomey ---

The host asked Bob Shrum if HE would like to be to invest a portion of his SS taxes in an account with a higher interest rate than SS---BoB SHrum said, "If I was a selfish person". He then said that anyone who would be for a plan like that doesn't "have the greater good of ALL Americans" in mind if the opt for a private investment share.

THAT WAS A SCARY ANSWER-remember, he was John Kerry's main campaign manager---and was Hillary's, also, I believe.
