Iraqi villagers kill 5 insurgents
ABC NEWS ^ | Friday, February 4, 2005. 11:27am (AEDT) | By Middle East correspondent Mark Willacy

The residents of a small Iraqi village have killed five insurgents who had attacked them for voting in last weekend's national elections.

Several other insurgents were also wounded.

The insurgents raided the village of al-Mudhiryah south of Baghdad after warning its inhabitants not to vote in the election.

The villagers fought back, killing five of the insurgents and wounding eight others.

The insurgents' cars were then set alight.

Al-Mudhiryah's tribal sheikh says his people are sick of being threatened by Islamic extremists.

Hanging insurgents corpses on a lamppost over their burning vehicles would probably drive a strong message to wannabe insurgents that this town isn't an easy target.

Kind of like what coastal towns used to do with the bodies of pirates to deter any other pirates who might get the idea to raid the town.

Sunday demonstrated to them they really had more in common with each other and that "fear" was their greatest enemy to their democracy.

Note to Kennedy:
Dear Mr. Liberal,
You wanted to know when Iraqis were going to fight back? They don't need as much stinkin' training as they needed to know who was really on their side.

I'll use this ping to remind you that I told you Monday that I expected this to begin happening.

I am so glad that the Iraqis are taking ownership of their destiny. Perhaps it will mean that Dusty and the rest of his Marine brothers won't have to go back and kick any more butt.

Bless their hearts. One taste of the nectar of liberty, introduces those who were once enslaved, to a way of life that is worth dying to preserve, but better yet to live for and enjoy and to force those who would take it away to die instead.

Well said!

They are all over the place on this.

Curse you for linking that cesspool...now I need a shower.

Kudos to the Iraqi villagers. Evil only propagates when good men do nothing.

That's how Mao-and so many of his deranged imitators-wound up seizing power, in the first place.

Once the people residing in the "Sunni Triangle" decide to expose the enemy among them, this "insurgency" is finito.
