CONGRESSMAN STEVE KING INTRODUCES RESOLUTION TO ELIMINATE IRS
WASHINGTON - As W-2s arrive in mailboxes this week, U.S. Congressman Steve King has introduced a resolution to repeal the 16th Amendment to the Constitution, which gives Congress the authority to collect income taxes.
H.J. Res. 16 would eliminate the IRS and the means for the government to collect income taxes.
"The IRS is an out-of-date, trillion-dollar-a-year drag on our economy," said King. "Instead of continuing to band-aid our complicated, leaking tax system year after year, we can choose a permanent solution and finally rid Americans of the fat leech they feed their paychecks to."
King has been a long-time supporter of the FairTax, a national sales tax placed on goods and services, which would replace the income tax.
H.J. Res. 16 must be approved by two-thirds of both the House and Senate, and then sent to the states, where three-fourths must ratify the amendment.

Whether you are right or wrong on that point is UTTERLY irrelevent. It is a fact of life.
Following your lead on this leads us to nothing but endless arguing about events of a century ago, with NO CHANGE.
So, PLEASE quit leading people down that stupid unproductive...nay, COUNTER-productive path!!
The federal unions will go nutts along with democrats to stop the IRS from being done away with. They will tell all their people that they are next, to fight to the finish. The US federal building here in Seattle on first avenue is about 5 floors tall. It got too small for the getting bigger government. Right across the street, they built an approximate 35 story highrise and that is now the US fed bldg and the old one is an annex. Talk about government growing. I ride on the ferry each day with at least 30 people who work at the IRS. All they do daily, all day, is answer the phones, talking to people calling about their taxes, and all the ranges of questions that people have. Their answering section takes nearly a floor up of people, just to answer phone calls.
Not anybody in touch with reality.
Howlin's right, we better all just spread our cheeks and bend over.
Ya just gotta believe. :-)
Win or lose, fighting for this is the right thing to do.
No matter how long it takes...
Get back to me when this gets to the floor.
FYI...
The FairTax is the ONLY plan that meets every criteria that the President laid down for the tax reform commission and that he dilineated in his speech last night.
No other proposal comes close.
I apologize for my sarcastic response, but I'm quite irritated at efforts of people who call themselves conservative playing the same roll on issues like this that John Kerry played when he got back form the Vietname War.
If you think it's a bad idea, then say so. If you're just going to ridicule it and say it can't pass, then you're just sabotaging our progress.
Amen, bro.
Tammy Baldwin? Is she from Chunchula, Alabama?

Title: Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the sixteenth article of amendment.
Status: Referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary.
Proposing a Constitutional Amendment to repeal the sixteenth amendment to the Constitution.
Perhaps the Ways and Means Committee would be more appropriate but they may run all Constitutional issues through Judiciary.
American taxpayers are going nuts at the cost of compliance, the ease at which socialists agendas get passed, the fact that our current system has the same effect as putting a tarrif on exports (and domestically sold goods) but grants foreign countries access to our markets without sharing in the tax burden, allows foreign visitors (legal and illegal) to benefit from being here without bearing equally in the federal tax burden... You better believe there's gonna be a fight, and we'd better be ready to counter their resistence.
True, but if either bill passes, in increases the chance of the other bill passing as well and Linder has more support for his bill (50+ co-signers in the House) so it will probably pass first.

Poetry.
[Does anyone seriously think that 2/3 of congress will approve this?]
All long journeys require the very hardest first step. Without it no journey occurs.
Godspeed, The Dilg
It doesn't matter what you or I favor. Government doesn't cut or eliminate taxes.
They will find a way to scam us out of more of our money.
No, Tammy Baldwin was born in Madison, Wisconsin. AKA "80 Square Miles Surrounded by Reality"
We're the government.
Remember?
Why don't we simply get rid of employer withholdings, and have taxpayers pay their own tax bill by writing a check to the Fed every month? People are numb to income taxes because it's confiscated before we get to see or touch the money. It's not real money, even though we earn it.
Let people actually take home the fruits of their labor, then ask them to write a check to pay the tax bill. Instant tax reform (or revolt).
A national sales tax really doesn't solve the problem - tax collections would just be "hidden" somewhere else (in the cost of goods). It's a shell game that won't do much to actually reduce the size of government or help to control spending.
