Police have a man in custody after two firebombings Wednesday at the Vancouver Law Courts.
The downtown block around the courthouse and government office complex was cordoned off by police after a man threw a Molotov cocktail at a window, setting a bush on fire.
The building was evacuated after a second fire was discovered in the underground parkade.
Police said witnesses saw the man making his escape in a black SUV.
The vehicle was later tracked to a house in suburban Surrey, where investigators arrested a suspect.
No one was hurt in the firebombings, although one person was taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Const. Tim Fanning of Vancouver police said the incident began about 3:30 p.m. when a black SUV pulled up on Howe St. by an exit ramp leading from the parkade.
A man "calmly got out of the vehicle and threw a bottle at the window," said Fanning. "The bottle ignited a hedge so we know it was a Molotov cocktail."
A passing traffic enforcement officer put out the fire with an extinguisher.
Sheriffs from the courthouse discovered the second fire, prompting the evacuation of the building.
The police emergency response team went down to the parking lot to make sure it was clear, said Fanning, who described the attack as disturbing.
"It's something that is taken very seriously," he said.
Nice headline.
In addition to being dangerous on the road, killing of their own volition, SUVs are arsonists now, too?
Man - you just KNEW these SUVs were gonna start fighting back.
Absolutely! Those evil SUV's are on a jihad against humanity. Sucking up all our precious gasoline, running over innocent Yugos, firebombing public buildings!
Ping
Those darn SUVs!
Ban the Bics!
LOL!
Yesterday an SUV attracted a small jetliner clean off the runway, and today the SUV retaliates.
Horrible!
:)

Professor!!! LOOK OUT!!!
