Bush Restricted Funding For Stem Cell Research

WASHINGTON (AP) Christopher Reeve’s widow, Dana Reeve, is going to President Bush’s State of the Union address in hopes of hearing him propose additional support for medical research.

Reeve, who is attending Wednesday night as the guest of Rep. James Langevin, D-R.I., has been a vocal advocate of embryonic stem cell research. And Langevin said Tuesday that, “it is my hope that having Dana present at the State of the Union will help refocus the nation’s attention and the president’s attention on stem cell research and the need for more funding.”

Reeve, who is chairwoman of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, campaigned for Democrat John Kerry last year in the presidential race. And in a statement released Tuesday, she said she is looking forward to hearing Bush’s plans “to further scientific research and improve the quality of life for millions of Americans living with paralysis and other debilitating conditions.”

Langevin has been confined to a wheelchair since he was accidentally shot at age 16.

After he took office, Bush restricted federal funding for the hotly debated research to the use of stem cell lines that existed before August 2001. And he has pushed for a ban on all cloning, including that of embryonic stem cells.

I had heard her name bantered about earlier. What struck me was the memory of her on the democratic side introducing Kerry.

Perhaps she is a fair weather supporter. That she thought Kerry would do more, but, now has to support Bush, to get her research into the limelight.

This just infuriates me, while I am sorry that her husband died, I do think there are many deserving folks that should be attending instead of her.

Sorry if I am an insensitive **tch!

If Reeves would have had a proper helmet on he might have come out much better.

I don't think "attending" equates with "supporting".

And Langevin said Tuesday that, “it is my hope that having Dana present at the State of the Union will help refocus the nation’s attention and the president’s attention on stem cell research and the need for more funding.”

It's a publicity stunt.

It's a publicity stunt.

The same could be said for the entire State of the Union! Dollars to donuts that Bush is going to point out someone in the audience as support for some RINO proposal or another.

For a long time, our Presidents submitted the State of the Union report in writing.

You are not insensitive,

This woman is uninformed. If embryonic stem cell research is so promising why aren't private companies pursuing?

Because all ESCR has resulted in is the needless destruction of life.

If she knew better she would be supporting promising adult stem cell research.

I do not know, but, maybe we can try to keep count. Then again, it will depend on which network is on, CBS, will make it all about the evil republicans as the widow Reeve looks on.

shheesshhh

I am for research and right now there is viable way ...

A Howard Stern Show Review

Dana Reeve Comes In. 1/15/02. 7:55am

Dana Reeve, Christopher Reeve's wife, came in to talk to Howard about an upcoming celebrity hockey game that she's involved with.

Howard spoke to Dana about her husband's accident and whether or not Chris would let Howard bang her. Dana told Howard that she listens to his show every day and she's a fan.

Howard told Dana that she thinks that the doctors who saved Christopher are ''ghouls.'' Jimmy Kimmel joked that she should kill Chris herself. Yesterday Howard was discussing an article that he read about how most guys will leave their wives if they get cancer. He asked Dana if she thinks Chris would have left her if she was the one who had a life threatening disease. Dana said she hopes he wouldn't. She told Howard she's happy to have Chris around but she told him it was up to him if he wanted to stick around.

Howard asked Dana if they killed the horse that threw Chris off. Dana said the horse is still alive and well and it actually got them a million bucks. Dana said a woman donated $1 million to them because they kept the horse alive.

Howard asked if it would be the lowest thing to try and seduce her. He asked Dana if Chris told her it was okay, would she have sex with him. She said if Chris wanted that she'd do it. She doesn't think that's what he wants though. She claims that they still have sex. She said that Chris can still get an erection at ''odd times'' but they can still get it on. At one point Jimmy just blurted out ''So what do you hop on top?''

After Dana left Howard and Jimmy talked about how hot she was. Jimmy said he thinks she came in looking for sex because of what she was wearing. They said she's an amazing woman. A paralyzed phone caller agreed. He told Howard he met her and she was really nice. The caller said that he can still get it up himself but he doesn't feel anything so he can't complete the act. H

Although disgusting, I thank you for posting what is probably one of the most convincing arguments about why Howard Stern should not be polluting the nation's airwaves.

What a sick SOB.

“it is my hope that having Dana present at the State of the Union will help refocus the nation’s attention and the president’s attention on stem cell research and the need for more funding.”

Yeah, we've got Islam-O-Nazis who want to convert us to Islam or cut our heads off; we've got a Social Security Ponzi Scheme that is going to start collapsing on itself; we've got a disloyal opposition in the press and in the halls of our own government whose outright seditious behavior worsens with each passing day; we've got a porous border and 14 million illegals from Mexico living in this country; we've got homosexuality being promoted in the schools in the name of tolerance and Communism being promoted in the name of diversity; we've got a judiciary that legislates from the bench and a Congress that is incapable of protecting the rights that God gave us; we've got infanticide masquerading as choice and the twins virtues of treason and cowardice masquerading as patriotism....

Sure, the most important thing we can do is focus the nation's attention on stem cell research....

Another "thumb in the eye" Democrat stunt. Like the protester at the inauguration who got his ticket from Harry Reid. These people have a lot of class - all low.
