But by courting conservative blacks in battleground states reaching out through programs such as the president's faith-based initiative GOP organizers believe they made the difference that secured Bush's victory in 2004. In Ohio, for instance, a concerted effort increased black support for Bush from 9% in 2000 to 16% in 2004, providing a cushion that allowed the president to win the pivotal state outright on election night. The Black Contract With America will be unveiled by Bishop Harry R. Jackson Jr., a registered Democrat from suburban Washington who backed Bush in 2004 after voting against him four years earlier. He was drawn, he said, to the GOP's social conservatism that he thought reflected the true values of black churches.

Sho nuff!
MWLWN LABE!
He's a purely political animal. The very definition, even.
He's extremely handsome, well-mannered, has an appealing personality, very smart, and can speak convincingly. Having said that, he should be the GOP's worst nightmare.
But he's not.
The Dems don't realize that personal and political ambition can override one's loyalty to a political party. Their snubbing of him and the late Maynard Jackson could very well bite them in the butt.
As if the GOP were pandering in the first place; but what the hey: Screw the blacks (including the ones who have actually had the temerity to venture "off of the plantation" and let's go find someone else to let in, right?
Please. Spare me.
You don't want me in, that's your business, but quit trying to tell me that my work to bring other right-thinking blacks into the fold is worthless. If you don't want to help, then dummy up and get out of my way.
Agreed. And the Dems are trying to whitewash Blackwell from all over the nation. Case in point -- the current issue of the Buffalo Beast (their weekly "free newspaper") includes a list of the "50 Most Loathsome People in America", and topping that list is Blackwell.
What did these morons have to say about Blackwell?
Yet the left tries to paint themselves as the self-righteous, self-appointed "friends" of black America. With "friends" like those, who needs enemies?Crimes: The greasy, rancid piece of crap who delivered Ohio for Bush by any means necessary, and then bragged about it in a recent fundraising letter. A black man who has no reservations about screwing over his own people in his lust for power and money. Blackwell is the kind of soulless traitor without whose complicity no nefarious evil plot ever goes down. In step with the future of global elections.
Smoking Gun: Phony recounts, media lockouts, intentional misallocation of voting machines, you name it.
Just Punishment: Dissolved in barrel of acid.
Oh, and you can take a look at the Buffalo Beast list of the "The Beast 50 Most Loathsome People in America" at http://www.buffalobeast.com/66/50mostLoathsome2004.htm
I hope Blackwell runs. He would be SO much better than the RINO Taft, we have now.
I hope you're right. It's occurred to me on occasion (for example, when watching him on Fox & Friends), that Ford might be a good candidate to come over to our side. If he's that politically savvy, surely he sees that it could be a good move for him. If he's smart he'll stay where he is for about four years, not p.o. the republicans in a major way, gain more experience and prestige, and see how the next two elections go. By that time he could be a major pick-up for the republicans.

Yeah right when RINOs say to blacks that we need affirmative action which you and I both know is legalized racism then that not pandering? My point is that conservative values win the argument day in day out. Im willing to put up for debate conservative values vs. liberal values anyday. But if we have to change conservative values re. welfare, freedom, speech, value oflife, religion, educatiion, taxes, and judging people based on merit (vs. liberal race/gender mantras) then it is not the party for conservatives. Unlike the libs, what should draw blacks to voting Republican and even more important voting Conservative is the value of ideas.
BTW - Your commnent "if you dont want me in" sounds like a black liberal trying to accuse me of being against you based on your race, nice try but it wont fly - if you really want to move forward then debate me on the merit of my ideas and historical proof of my argument.
You know Blackwell started out as a Democrat? The Dems in Cincinnati called him Ken Switchwell. I've met him several times. Great guy. He comes to an annual picnic that a guy at my church has.
I don't have to justify or prove myself to you or any other knuckle-dragging jerk who feels the necessity to bitch at me.
You want to go off on blacks who enjoy drinking the Kool-Aid, that's fine, but to try to insist that black conservatives or any other conservatives who are interested in working to show black America that there is another way are wasting their time and "pandering", you're full of it.
I'm not going to play your game of trying to justify your negative.
And if you can't handle that, then bite me.
Oh, and I'm sorry, you don't get to set the rules defining me; I won't relinquish that job -- it belongs to me.
I catch enough sh*t from other blacks (including my own damn family) who want to pigeon-hole me and give me guff. I'll be damned if I'm gonna take it from you.
Hey, come on, I'm Black, but my Lutheran church is predominately white. We need to be recognized there too.

Thats your response? If you cant debate or provide a credible rebuttal then as you said why dont you leave that to me and get out of the way. Its obvious you run on emotion and you prove my point - to much of the black community is manipulated by emotion and not fact. When or if black Americans wake up on who is the current slaveholder then they might accept and encourage conservative ideals. Until then they (90%) are relegated to begging from liberals for more freebies. My sincere hope is that the majority of blacks would become independent free thinkers able to shake the bonds of the corrupt liberal dogma - racial hatred, affirmative action, and govt. handouts, etc. - but I dont see anything which shows that change on the horizon.
It's not a matter of "can't" -- I refuse to waste my time with you. You have already set a "blacks are stupid" mindset as your starting point.
I refuse to discuss the matter with you.
Go find someone else to play with.
I'm done with you.
"I don't have to justify or prove myself to you or any other knuckle-dragging jerk who feels the necessity to bitch at me."
Hmmm - lets see black man call white guy a knuckle dragging jerk. Thats not racist (sarcasm alert).
Im all for blacks becoming conservative and voting for social conservatives, but I dont see it happening - nothing in the last election showed a trend. Take my advice and get some anger counseling. Or learn to debate with more critical thought and less emotion.
"It's not a matter of "can't" -- I refuse to waste my time with you. You have already set a "blacks are stupid" mindset as your starting point."
You have been the only one who said "blacks are stupid". You may not like the fact that blacks voted 90% for liberals but it is fact. You dont surprise me, you point the finger at everybody else and sream racism while you harbor the racism. Your family and friends think your a trader, why? Because you think that everyone should be treated equally? You want to stop the cycle of welfare and govt. dependence? What is it that they dislike? or perhaps its that you may think on your own. Sad isnt it? If thats not it please espouse......until then try debating the subject and not changing the argument by inciting personal remarks.
I agree with the items in the proposed contract, but they are good fer all Americans, not just Black Americans, imho. I'm sorta torn on this issue...yes, we want to attract more Black Americans to conservatism, but do we do it by treating them as a unique sub-population?!
---
You make a good point, and you're right the basic principles of it are anti-thetical to conservatism, but the problem is we need something powerful to jolt African Americans out of their liberal mindset. I think this idea is worth looking into, just to hammer in the point that Conservatism helps blacks the most.
Be afraid, Rep. Owens, be VERY afraid.
FYI, Roosevelt freed the slaves
MLK, RFK, and MLK gave blacks equal rights and the vote
Bill Clinton personally saved many black children in a series of church fires in Arkansas.Br> The WHite Man started AIDS and sells drugs in th 'hood
