"From the Chairman of the National Intelligence Council
Mapping the Global Future: Report of the National Intelligence Councils 2020 Project is the third unclassified report prepared by the National Intelligence Council (NIC) in recent years that takes a long-term view of the future. It offers a fresh look at how key global trends might develop over the next decade and a half to influence world events. Mindful that there are many possible "futures," our report offers a range of possibilities and potential discontinuities, as a way of opening our minds to developments we might otherwise miss.
As I used to say to my students at Princeton, linear analysis will get you a much-changed caterpillar, but it won't get you a butterfly. For that you need a leap of imagination. We hope this project, and the dialogue it stimulates, will help us make that leapnot to predict the world of 2020, which is clearly beyond our capacitybut to better prepare for the kinds of challenges that may lie ahead....

One of my clients who follows geopolitical trends a whole lot closer than most Americans was adamant I read this report. The online source is avalable in both HTML and .PDF format, and what I have read thus far is fascinating. But I will be ordering the book format from the U.S. Government Printing Office, along with a few extra copies for some friends who are in positions that the formidable challenges this nation will be facing in the next few years will be impacting directly.
Remember, an informed FReeper is an effective FReeper.

One of the other list members asked me to 'Ping!' this thread again when this report was finally available in book form. I just received mine in the mail. The final cost is $39.00, and although for some this may be a little high, the mailing was almost six bucks, plus they have a CD of the document included also.
I have been browsing through it and this is a great resource for any American who wants to keep abreast of what is happening in the global community and how America, as a nation, will have to respond to it.
If you have the money to spend, it's something a writer, your Pastor, a friend in the business/corporate, law enforcement, or political community, would find helpful, as we, as a people, continue to strive to contend with maintaining our uniqueness and liberty in a global community largely hostile towards our nation's founding principles and ideas.
