A good friend called me a few hours ago terribly upset. Her two sons, both United States Marines, were in Washington DC last night (Saturday) with their dates. They went to the Hawk and Dove, which is a Capitol Hill watering hole.
Now before I go any farther here, understand that I know these two Marines and these are really good kids, hardly the rowdy type -- both went through OCS and are just not the troublemaking types.
At any rate, they were NOT ALLOWED entry into the Hawk and Dove. They were told that the military WAS NOT WELCOME and that especially was true for MARINES.
Is your blood boiling yet???? Mine is. I cannot reveal who these Marines' parents are, but let me tell you, my Freeper brethren, this is a patriotic family who has done much for our nation. (Their mother spends many weekends at Walter Reed with the injured soldiers and even had a house full of them over for Thanksgiving.) I'm telling you, this is an extraordinary family that has given much in service to our country.
So here's the deal. I want this bar to know of our displeasure with their disrespectful behavior toward these two young Marines.
At the very least, I'd like to see a round for these young men on the house and a profuse apology from the owner.
No kidding. This story has something missing.
No. The website is Conservative Gadfly's. Don't know why it's down - maybe too many hits?
Or somebody who didn't make it thru basic. BTW did you know that Art Buchwald was a leatherneck? He said "They beat me up for 12 weeks, then said 'Don't do anything wrong!' And I didn't, for 4 years!"
It did and I'm not. Legally this is not slander or defamation.
In fact, that is such a bizarre notion that I hardly know how to respond. I know these Marines. I work with their mother every day. I have nothing against this bar, except for what happened there on Saturday night.
No one who serves our country should be subjected to this kind of treatment.
You never know. When I was in the military we were turned away from bars when in uniform. It was for our own good and probably saved our lives or at least kept us out of the hospital or jail so I wouldn't be so quick to judge.
On the other hand, if the owner just despises the military like BJ then drive him out of business.
The link worked when I clicked it.
Oh your right.....how silly of me to doubt the word of a nameless/faceless person who posts on a message board. What EVER was I thinking? Of course everything posted online is true.
Ive seen PLENTY of marines there. Recently.
I don't think that is just a NYC thing. How many bars do you think will be open across the nation next Sunday night?
It's workin' for me. Hmmmm. Time to harass my long-suffering IT guy.
Wait a sec...are you just trying to get free beer out of this? If this happened, why would someone want to go back? This "story" is just that....a story that you heard thru another person who heard it thru another person and so on. You dont know all the details of what happened and you dont know what all was said and even if the marines were even sober.
Maybe the Saturday night bouncer was making an "executive decision" that the owner didn't know about. We'll learn more tomorrow, I think.
True, or maybe they were too drunk, or didn't have ID, in which case we won't hear about it.
I haven't been there in years so I can't attest to how many Marines go there anymore. I wouldn't call it a "Marine hangout" but I have seen them there certainly.
Can't speak to the clientele recently, however. All I know is that it didn't include these two Marines.
Where they here at this location Raycpa?
has the bar issued a statement?
HitmanNY,How could they know how they would be treated until they went there.
I wouldn't call it a marine hangout either. But I can tell you in ten years I've never seen an instance of discrimination at any DC bar I've ever been in.
The Hawk and Dove's website has a few little RealPlayer videos that show Marine-looking guys inside. I'll check back tomorrow to see what becomes of this.
Don't waste your time.
