MARINES dissed in Washington DC bar -- UNBELIEVABLE story

Edited on 01/30/2005 7:45:24 PM PST by Jim Robinson. [history]

A good friend called me a few hours ago terribly upset. Her two sons, both United States Marines, were in Washington DC last night (Saturday) with their dates. They went to the Hawk and Dove, which is a Capitol Hill watering hole.

Now before I go any farther here, understand that I know these two Marines and these are really good kids, hardly the rowdy type -- both went through OCS and are just not the troublemaking types.

At any rate, they were NOT ALLOWED entry into the Hawk and Dove. They were told that the military WAS NOT WELCOME and that especially was true for MARINES.

Is your blood boiling yet???? Mine is. I cannot reveal who these Marines' parents are, but let me tell you, my Freeper brethren, this is a patriotic family who has done much for our nation. (Their mother spends many weekends at Walter Reed with the injured soldiers and even had a house full of them over for Thanksgiving.) I'm telling you, this is an extraordinary family that has given much in service to our country.

So here's the deal. I want this bar to know of our displeasure with their disrespectful behavior toward these two young Marines.

At the very least, I'd like to see a round for these young men on the house and a profuse apology from the owner.

My husband went through OCS while in the Navy. He was *never* refused service. But then, that was primarily Pensacola, a definite military town - and not the political pavement like DC.

Please keep us updated on this story.

Did you ask if they have a policy? If you did it seems like the night manager is passing the buck.

"Ahhh yes, I dont know what Im talking about because of where I live"

My comments about your beloved New Orleans in post # 121 were typed with tongue in cheek.

Apparently you have no sense of humor or are just too angry right now to see that I was joking about New Orleans.

BTW, what is the name of your business? I can tell all my family, relatives and friends to stay away from your establishment and start calling you and trashing your business name. :-)

P.S. If you really do have to live there and have no choice in the matter I really do feel sorry for you.

"NYC does stay open later than anyplace else I know of though."

Unless the laws have changed in New Orleans the bars can stay open 24/7.

Some close like from 7 - 8 in the morning to sweep the floor. :-)

Oh, he knows not what he does......does he?

I thought you were trying to end this and now you are pinging others to get involved? Which is it, are we done with this conversation or are you trying to shove the arguement onto other peoples plates?

someone always picked up their checks

My wife and I do that frequently and completely anonymously here in Nashville when we see soldiers dining. We get some Ft Campbell lads out on the town and a few other battalions scattered about at local armories or kids from other units home on leave. I also grant discounts at my self storage place to military families and freebies at my car washes and I know other business folks who do the same. It's the proper thing to do. I cannot imagine anyone around here refusing service unless there were problems with specific issues. I must confess that once in Orangestaad Aruba I saw a Brit naval vessel crew come ashore and wreak complete hooliganism havoc until the local cops and some Dutch SF guys from a camp nearby could take control. The Brit officers seemed not to care in the least. Am I mistaken to believe that US officers would not tolerate wilding by their enlisted men? Someone can correct me.

I dunno. I DO know that I was in an elevator in the Russell Senate Office Bldg. with Sen. Kerry, his lovely wife Teeeerrrraaaaaayyyyyyza and a couple of staffers the day of the Inauguration. Talked about the entire horrifying experience with Doug From Upland on RIGHTALK at the Freeper Ball.

He did NOT look happy. She did. She was grinning like a Cheshire cat. Truly surreal.

Can't imagine him at the Hawk and Dove. He's more the Hay Adams type of guy.

No. It means stating you won't take your business somewhere doesn't mean much unless you are in the area to not go to the place that would have otherwise gotten your business.

I know you did, I was merely pinging the same people that you pinged. I dont appreciate you trying to start something and then run off but not before getting someone else to fight your battle....which BTW you said you were finished with.

Ok, let's verify this story and get it out.

Verify is always good. That was my first thought.
