The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

WASHINGTON -- Mosques across the U.S. continue to carry books and pamphlets describing non-Muslims as "infidels" and promoting intolerance against Western society, according to a forthcoming study by Freedom House, a U.S. human-rights group.

Despite vows from American Islamic leaders after Sept. 11, 2001, to proselytize peacefully, New York based Freedom House researchers found 57 documents with incendiary material in more than a dozen mosques and Islamic centers in six states and Washington, D.C., visited over the past year.

You're welcome. I'm sure the licensing protocol differs in each state. Ours was issued by the county fire marshal. Unfortunately that could imply that some states have really lax rules. We also have enough reasons to handle the immigration problem. We just need the @*&#s to handle the illegals :-)

Illegal workers of Northrop Grumman subcontractor are arrested (Newport News shipyard)

Two illegal workers for a subcontractor of Northrop Grumman Newport News were arrested Friday for using fake documents to obtain work at the shipyard, the nation’s sole builder of nuclear-powered carriers.

Sang Bok Lee and Sang Han Yang are charged with falsely representing themselves as U.S. citizens to a subcontractor at Northrop Grumman. Court records say they are from Korea, but the paperwork does not specify whether it is North or South Korea. If convicted, they face a maximum of three years in prison and a fine. A preliminary hearing scheduled for Monday afternoon was postponed until Thursday.

Authorities said they were searching for a third suspect Monday. That individual’s identity was not released.

Steven Emerson: AP is Biased and Conflicted in Reporting on Palestinians

An Associated Press story on Saturday (text below) reveals the sleight of hand in its reporting. This was as close to a press release for the Palestinians as I ever seen by the AP. But no surprise - the AP has a special relationship with the Palestinians which biases their reporting, as I will explain below. First, four points about the article:

1. The headline and story suggest a unanimity of Palestinian "anger" over the bombing, an assessment that the reporter could not possibly have ascertained.

2. The AP maintains the charade that there is universal Palestinian anger over the attack by uncritically reporting the nonsensical comment by Abbas that even "the prisoners" (i.e., Palestinian terrorists in Israeli prisons) were "outraged" by the attack.

3. The height of the reporter's lunacy is the paragraph starting with "If a Palestinian group were found to be responsible..." IF? Who are to we believe carried this out? An invisible suicide bomber beamed into Tel Aviv from Beirut? Moreover, Islamic Jihad released a video claiming responsibility for the attack.

4. Finally and not least, see the last paragraph. In order to show Palestinian "moderation" this time, the reporter cites the absence of celebrations as previously occurring in "dozens of other suicide bombings." Excuse me, but when did AP substantively report these celebrations in the past?

Intercoastal Waterway a haven for smugglers

PORT ISABEL, February 26, 2005 — For 1,109 miles between Brownsville and the Florida Panhandle, the Intercoastal Waterway provides sheltered passage for commercial ships piloting around the Gulf of Mexico.

But the bay system it cuts through, a mazelike and loosely patrolled mixture of mangrove swamps, small, uninhabited islands and shallow sandbars, has made the Texas leg of the channel a haven for smugglers.

“I can’t tell you how bad we’re getting beat on the Intercoastal Waterways,” said Will Glasby, the head of the McAllen office of U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

“You get into the waterway and head north of the checkpoint to whatever town’s there. Maybe no one’s making loads through there, but it would be naive to think that.”

The DEA is especially concerned about the roughly 100-mile stretch between Port Mansfield and Corpus Christi, a passage that allows smugglers to bypass the final Customs checkpoint in Sarita. While the waterway falls within the patrol areas of four separate state and federal agencies, the manpower dedicated to catching drug and human smugglers falls far below what is needed, said Capt. Ken Baker, head of the Brownsville station of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

“It’s not just drugs; there’s a lot of illegal alien traffic. It’s been going on for a while. They’re always looking for new avenues, especially those avenues of least resistance,” he said.
