WASHINGTON - Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly has lashed out at a CBC documentary featuring guests who were highly critical of his show.
"Vicious attack on Fox News by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, totally out of any kind of bounds," said O'Reilly in his response Friday night to the Fifth Estate broadcast on Jan. 26.
"How low will they go? We'll show you the tape and you won't believe it!" was another response found on the Fox News website.
The Fifth Estate's website says the documentary examines the "war of words that's pitting conservative against liberal."
"It's loud, it's raucous, but does it have anything to do with the truth?" the site asks about the new kind of hard-hitting political debate on U.S. television.
Journalists, media watchers and other talk show hosts in the documentary took aim at the O'Reilly Factor and show's relationship with the truth.
In turn, the host had two guests on his show who agreed with him about the CBC.
"The Canadian government gives them a billion dollars to put this sort of stuff on the air, and the Canadian government is really at fault here, isn't it?" O'Reilly said to one guest.
"You scare the hell out of them, Bill," the guest answered.
CBC refused an invitation to appear on O'Reilly's show Friday night, and O'Reilly refused to be interviewed for the Fifth Estate broadcast.
In the past, O'Reilly has called the CBC radically to the left, the Globe and Mail a "far-left newspaper," and Canadian health care "socialist."
He and his conservative colleagues say they're doing journalism that is fair and balanced.
The Fox News Channel is the highest-rated news network in the United States. In mid-December, Rogers Communications announced it had added Fox to its all-digital channel lineup, becoming the first in Canada to do so.
I had a former acquaintance from Saskatchewan who called the CBC the Communist Broadcasting Company. I wonder why...
Did you happen to see Stuart Smalley sobbing like a little girl at the mention of his patriotism being questioned, and mewling between sobs about how mean and divisive conservatives are? It made my viewing day!
Edited version..follows:
"In the past, O'Reilly has correctly called the CBC radically to the left, the Globe and Mail a "far-left newspaper," and Canadian health care "socialist."
I'm sure the doc is crud, but for O'R to get all cranky because someone dares criticize him is laughable, since all he does is criticize others in the media.
Bill will come back again for round two for sure. The CBC Evening News last night called him a liar 4 times (with proof they said), played the infamous shut-up clips, and called him numerous names such as chief loudmouth which they said was hard to dispute, domineering, over-rated, bribe-taker, etc...
That's not what it was about, the documentary accused the entire Fox News network and all of its staff of taking bribes from the government, and handing out instruction manuals on how to cover the news. Let's not forget lying of course, and being a tool for the extreme right wingers with totally unfair and unbalanced reporting.
They must have a death wish in their news bureau. I personally wouldn't want Bill O'Reilly for an enemy.
Fox News needs to run a 6pm show in Canada like Brit Hume's program and get Rex Murphy to host it.It would kill CBC.
Well, O'Reilly was on my sh*t-list, but it looks like he's going to take on the Marxist PC crowd in Canada. Should be fun watching these Canadian girly-boys at CBC squirming. Guess I'll pop some popcorn, tune in again and find a seat on the cheering section.
I agree with ya. And, after what old Bill did to that young girl working at Fox, I'm not sure I'm about to believe anything he has to say about anyone else.
Anything would help, any conservative media at all! Even our sort-of, a little to the right National Post is moving towards the left.
I wanted to reach out and slap Smalley silly. Tell him to man up and stop being a whiney little bitch!
Maybe CBC feels threatened. After all, Fox News just came to Canada and is probably taking away a lot of viewers from CBC.
Welcome to FR, Larabelle.
I thought it was the Congressional Black Caucus.
Same thing I guess
Nothing like giving your opponent free publicity. Curious Canadians will be looking to sign up for Fox just to see for themselves what the controversy is all about. And after they do, they won't go back to the CBC.
The CBC regurgitates disgusting, lying, propagandistic and immature bullshit. Thank God Fox is now available in Canada.
I wonder how many Canadians are aware of just how much they're being brainwashed by the always anti-American CBC.
To the CBC, lying is prefectly OK as long as it's advancing leftwing ideas, or bashing americans.
No offense or anything, but O'Reilly is apparently the only American who gives a rat's behind what Canada or the CBC says or thinks about ANYTHING. O'Reilly would be well advised to forget about Canada. Nobody cares.
