WASHINGTON -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, along with Border Patrol agents, are on the ground in Iraq to help secure that country's war-torn borders prior to tomorrow's national elections, CBP officials said yesterday.
CBP spokeswoman Kristi M. Clemens said the deployment team will bolster current border security efforts, providing support and additional training for Iraqi border police -- which will continue beyond the elections -- in an effort to keep saboteurs, terrorists and armaments from crossing into or out of the country.

"Border security is critical to defeating terrorists -- whether at U.S. borders or the borders of Iraq," Mr. Bonner said.Great. Now get serious about securing OUR borders.

If they protect the Iraqi borders like they protect our boarders, the Iraqis are in for trouble. Maybe they can install E-Z Pass customs checkpoints between Syria and Iraq to speed the flow of insurgents.

Don't blame the guys and gals on the ground; blame the idiots in Washington that refuse to let them do their job.

Precisely. Bingo. What are these people thinking? We care more about protecting Iraqia from illegals than we do about protecting Americans from illegals?
Whatever funtionery in the Bush Adminstration who approved this Border Patrol effort in Iraq has a political tin ear. Those who signed off on this lame idea should be assigned to sit in a hot shack across the border from Juarez and read documents in Spanish for the rest of their careers.

Based on your defintion of "secure borders", no it will never happen. You have no clue to what my definition of "secure borders" is.

Removing border agents from OUR borders and assigning them to Iraq's. That's the ticket to improving our security.

Yes --- it's funny they'll do for another country what they don't do for our own. After all --- wouldn't all the border crossers into Iraq just be wanting to do those jobs that Iraqis are too lazy and arrogant to do themselves? We've been told over and over that's the only reason people cross borders.
