John Stossel is the greatest!

Yes! How 'bout emailing the announcement to your address book?

Tonight on "20/20" at 10pm Eastern/Pacific: John Stossel has a special hour, taking on conventional wisdom in "Myths, Lies and Nasty Behavior."

I bet Stossel eats alone in the ABC lunchroon next week.

Bet he wouldn't want it any other way either.
Why would anyone want to sit with, let alone listen to liberals while they are eating?

"You'll never get ABC to admit it, but the ratings on that show make a huge upward jump every time he is on."

Yes, we all know how TV networks just hate to acknowledge higher ratings! I mean, can you imagine your competitors knowing that you OUTPERFORMED THEM? Can you imagine having to actually ADMIT to good ratings when you're in the business of selling advertising time?

Sheez.

OK, so what is ABC holding back, exactly? They continually devote high-profile prime time space to John Stossel's work, putting him before millions of viewers. Yet they're unwilling to "admit" to ratings data that is already publicly available?

I'd be interested to see evidence for these two assertions:
1. The ratings for "20/20" make a "huge upward jump" every time John Stossel is on.
2. Someone has tried to get ABC to admit this, but ABC has refused.

I've no reason to doubt #1. But something is telling me that you just kind of pulled #2 out of ... I don't know where, exactly. Can you please point to proof to support the assertions?

As for Stossel himself, his work is wonderful. He is truly a blessing.

You'll never get ABC to admit it, but the ratings on that show make a huge upward jump every time he is on. It also helps explain why ABC would allow a non-liberal on the air.

Stossel is more libertarian than conservative; he is a free-market advocate and anti-handout and regulation, but is liberal on on social issues like marriage and abortion. ABC News, which brings you Peter Jennings, Baba Wawa, George Stephanopoulos, Terry "Sweet Lips" Moran, and Carole "Are Our Children Going To Grow Up Stupid?" Simpson, wouldn't tolerate Stossel if he wasn't immensely popular with the public.

Stossel is the closest thing to a Republican any of the big three nets will let anywhere close to a newscast.

Welcome to FR.

You should lurk more before you post. 'Pod.

I'm surprised Stossel has lasted this long on ABC. (Maybe the ratings shoot up every time he's on.)

ABC News' content (especially the web content) is becoming increasingly more fair. I've noticed this sea change over the past 12 to 18 months. Much more fair than CBS and NBC, for sure. I believe it's a sign that ABC is beginning to "get it." As in, 'become more fair and balanced or become CBS.'

"Welcome to FR. You should lurk more before you post."

Thanks for the welcome. But why would you presume to know how much or how little I've been "lurking" before I posted? How would you know, for instance, that I hadn't been "lurking" daily for two years before I signed up to post? How much "lurking" is required, exactly, to meet your threshold of acceptability?

None of that is relevant anyway, because the reality is that I've been posting here for ages -- just not under this screen name. (I've adopted this new handle to match the name I'm now using at my new blog.) In fact, from checking your profile, I see that I was patronizing Free Republic well before your own sign-up date of April 1998.

The real question, though, is why you'd have any interest in my lurking-to-posting ratio in the first place.

It's clear that one thing never changes at Free Republic, regardless of the year or screen name: Too many responses focus on other users rather than on the actual arguments presented in their posts.

Will it be repeated? I missed it.

I don't know. Sometimes they repeat these things if they're done as "stand-alone" specials, but I've never seen them repeat them if they're presented as official "20/20" episodes, but I can't be sure.

Whatever, it WILL be available on DVD and VHS on this: JOHN STOSSEL VIDEO PAGE. You can try and see if they'll accept an advance order if you want. They've always treated me right.

Enough so that you don't make an idiot out of yourself when you post.

You say that you were here under another name. What was it?

You also say that you have been :patronizing" FR longer than I have been around. What was your original screenname and number?

Many people lurk quite awhile before they sign up and begin their active particiapation with FR.

He'd do well to look at myths regarding the military, specifically the Draft and Women in combat.

I used to think college tuition was spiking way beyond inflation when I found it that it has been closely tracking the average cost of a new car for 30 years.
