U.S. Army Helicopter Crashes in Baghdad
4 minutes ago Top Stories - AP
BAGHDAD, Iraq - An Army helicopter crashed in southwest Baghdad on Friday night and the fate of the crew was not immediately known, a U.S. military official said.
U.S. military officials do not think the helicopter was hit by hostile fire, but are still investigating, said Lt. Col. James Hutton.
The OH-58 Kiowa copter usually carries a crew of three and is unlikely to carry large numbers of passengers.
Ground units were at the scene, but the status of the crew was still unknown, Hutton told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.
Other helicopters were flying overhead in the area, in southwest Baghdad, to provide cover for the ground search and rescue units, Hutton said.
The crash occurred about 7:55 p.m. Baghdad time, he said.

It looks like a Huey.
It's time to get rid of those OH-58 Kiowa replacing it with UAV or make them unmanned and remote control.
The reporters have been remarking on the sand in the air.
May be a factor?
It is a four-seater and that is counting the pilot's seats.
Sand plays hell with aircraft engines, you get to much ingested and you will go down. The Israelis have a special shield that goes over the inlets to fix that, but most of our helos dont.
