Janet Reno talk on 'A Life in Public Service'
Janet Reno, former Attorney General of the United States of America, will speak at Colorado State University at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom.
Reno's lecture topic is "A Life in Public Service." The event is open to the public.
Appointed 78th Attorney General of the United States from 1993 until the end of the Clinton administration in 2001, Reno became the first woman to lead the nation's largest law enforcement office of 125,000 employees. A major figure during the Clinton administration, her eight-year term made her the longest-serving attorney general since the Civil War. During her tenure, she revolutionized law enforcement by achieving conventional crime rate and drug-use reductions.
As the chief law enforcement officer, Reno enforced policies on civil rights, race relations, corruption, the environment, gun control and immigration. She aimed to give ordinary citizens greater access to the justice system while also ensuring that the federal government consistently accorded strict principles of due process. Focusing on the well- being of the nation's children, Reno pushed for reforms to provide assistance to troubled youths. She also increased the government's information technology resources devoted to law enforcement and proposed additional Internet security by encouraging collaboration between companies and federal agencies.
One of the most influential and admired women of our time, Reno continues to be involved with issues important to her, including dispute resolution, advocacy for children and the elderly and law enforcement reform.
She brings her sharp mind, vast knowledge and keen wit to the podium to examine current issues and to encourage others to achieve their personal best. Sharing her journey of dedication and strength, Reno provides audiences with an honest and thought-provoking message of empowerment.
Tickets for Colorado State University students are free, and the cost for non-students is $5.50. Everyone must have a ticket to be admitted.
Tickets are available at the Campus Box Office located on the main level of the Lory Student Center, which can be reached at (970) 491-4849.
This event is presented by the Office of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement. Co-sponsors include Campus Activities, Housing and Dining Services, Lory Student Center, Off-Campus Student Services and Resources for Adult Learners, Vice President of Student Affairs and Women's Programs and Studies.
Perhaps her tour should be retitled "BBQing dozens of Texans without ever leaving your office".
She did so many bad things while in office, I need help remembering all of them. Please refresh my memory fellow FReepers, and throw in anyFReeping ideas, you have.
Thanks
Ask her why it was Gorelick who ran the dept instead of her.
Ping!

Thanks for the picture BenLurkin! I actually saved that photo in my collection. Time to warm up the printer!
Waco & Elian. Kinda says it all.
Ah, The Torch is back with her tanks that are like "really good rent-a-cars."
'Janet Reno's life in public service, gave Elian a life in hell'.
ick.
admired?
adocate for sending children to cuba?
running tanks over and burning innocent people?
She is truly detestable. She is even more loathesome than the slickmeister and the hildebeast. And that's saying a LOT.
She did the same thing with Chinagate.
I expect her and Hanoi Kerry to go on a tour.
They have much in common.
Both got away with crimes that the GOP refused to bring to justice.
One more school of lesser learning added to the list of places where my kids will not go.
THanks.
