Georgia Flag Vote update
Southern Heritage PAC ^ | Jan 25 | SHPAC

Posted on 01/27/2005 10:15:33 AM PST by DixieOklahoma

Support Georgia's right to have a REAL vote on their state flag... The only vote issued did not include the flag that sparked all the controversay in the first place!.

In addition, only 6% of registered voters showed up at the polls, BECAUSE the real Georgia state flag wasn't included in the referendum!!

There is currently a bill that has just been filed with the Georgia State House to allow the real flag to be included in a statewide vote, as well as the current flag.

No matter your feeling on the flag personally... There SHOULD BE a vote on this state flag. After all it is the people of the state of georgia that the flag represents! Right is right, and the people should have a vote on their stolen state flag.

RINO governor (the liar) Perdue, who will be defeated in his re election attempt in 2006, has vowed that this bill will be killed in comittee.

Lets see that that doesn't happen:

You validated what I just said when you wrote,

"The Confederate flag did "unite". It united a group of people"

However, you have the wrong key word.

The KEY WORD is right before unite. "did"

Today in the modern South the flag is a used by the KKK.
Like it or not that is a fact.

When you said,

"It united a group of people"

KEY WORD; Group

A "group" is exclusive. Hence, they become divisive from everyone else.

A flag is suppose to be a uniter and not a divider.

I am not saying everyone will all be in agreement over any flag. However, the Confederate Battle flag has become symbol of hate. You can thank the KKK and all the racist who use this flag.

Well the Confederate Battle flag has become divisive. You can thank the KKK, and racist who use it as a symbol of hate. If racist did not use this flag, then perhaps it would be an issue?

They should give it a rest. Voters have made their decision. Besides Georgia is no longer a state run by Democrats and there are most pressing issues than the Confederate Battle Flag in the corner of the State Flag.

Yes. Not because I like raising taxes, but if you are going to raise taxes, make it optional. I can choose not to pay that tax, so can everyone else.

If they take this symbol away, Imagine what they will do then. The SPLC and other groups have even went as far as to take battle flags off of dead confederate soldiers GRAVES - BECAUSE SOMEBODY MIGHT SEE IT!

I assure you sir that is a sign of pure hatred and they will not stop there.

They are an unyielding horde.

We are also trying to change the way people view the flag through proliferation of the truth. while the majority of the country may view the flag as racist, the majority of southerners or at least oklahoman's, I believe do not.

It is up to us good southernor's to stop the northern PC police. We are the first line of defense against groups like the SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER, who attack all conservative actions. If they can take us, they will move on to erradicate every viable symbol of honor that is left in America.

------- But please let me say, if I may... I am no FOR or AGAINST the 1956 georgia flag, I have no opinion on what the flag is, My only opinion is that my brethren in Georgia should have a real vote on their flag.

Also, what about the Mississippi state flag? it has a confederate battle flag that was put on it in 1896... and they still tried to take it off - but when 20% of blacks vote to keep it on you end up with a 75 -25 vote in favor of the flag.

If only republicans could get 20% of the black vote...

or

d) we know why people consider this flag racist, however we believe them to be incorrect, and therefore do not accept their complaints, but instead seek proliferation of the truth by informing the masses as the true purpose of this flag.

or

e) We simply think the manner in which this new flag came about is unjust, and plain weasly.

First of all, most Southern whites do not view the Battle Flag as racist. And I don't give a rat's a** what Yankee whites think about it. All I care about Yankee whites is that they quit occupying my State and my Country (the Confederacy) and quit corrupting the minds of Southerners with their revisionist history and lies. Now many citified Southern whites (such as those around Atlanta), who are more worried about their image and their pocket book than their testosterone level, may think it is a racist symbol but they have bought the big lie. Why should I give in to the big lie instead of fighting it. That is the problem with modern conservatism as well. We are arguing about reforming Social Security when we ought to be abolishing it. For the exact same reason. It is a done deal. The battle is over. Let's move along. Well I've got news for you, I ain't moving along, I'm going back and trying my best to take some of the wafflers along with me.

As for why this particular symbol. I don't know why history chose the Battle Flag as the symbol when it could have chosen the First National or the Bonnie Blue or whatever. Perhaps because it is beautiful. Perhaps because it is a Christian symbol, the St. Andrew's Cross. Perhaps because the Cause of the South will always be associated with battle, valiant men fighting much superior numbers. But the fact is that now it is the universally recognized symbol of the South and the Confederacy. We should uniquely support it precisely because others uniquely oppose it.

I absolutely understand why many view the flag as racist. Because they have been spoon fed Yankee propaganda masquerading as history and endlessly brow beaten by the PC clown act. What you do not understand is that some of us have the strong enough courage of our convictions to actually fight to change the way things are instead of tucking our tail between our legs and crawling off like a whipped dog.

(BTW Dixie and Red, I'm a ma'am, not a sir.)

I don't believe that either of you are racist. I am sympathetic to your love of the South, I love her too, but on this issue you are spitting in the wind. It simply boils down to this, if the symbol you choose doesn't send the message that is intended, you are a bad communicator. In this case you want the flag to mean one thing when it is interpreted by your audience to mean another.

In the meantime, there are far more important issues facing the state of Georgia than the window dressing on the Capitol. Our public schools rank dead last in the nation. Our beloved Hope Scholarship is in financial trouble. The air quality in Atlanta is atrocious. There is a Senate bill in the Georgia General Assembly that may threaten private property ownership in this state, and we need to do something to keep the urban sprawl in check.

These are real issues facing Georgians today and they are important. I hardly think it is wise, or valiant, to subordinate these issues to your desire to unseat our governor in what is tantamount to a hissy-fit over the flag.

Why should a good conservative be in favor of the Hope Scholarship which is just one more wealth redistribution scheme?

The flag issue is not just an issue that divides people by preference, but also by degree (willingness to compromise.) It is not a coincidence that two of the people who have endorsed the flag compromise, also seem to be OK with liberal measures like the tobacco tax and the hope scholarship. I am not willing to compromise fundamental issues like beating back PC. Apparently you are. If that is a hissy fit, then so be it.

Why wouldn't a conservative be in favor of the Hope Scholarship? It is not funded by a confiscatory tax but by voluntary participation in the lottery. That is not wealth distribution. If you don't want to support the Hope Scholarship, you can choose not to play the lottery. I don't have a problem with the state putting this revenue to good use.

But again, you are missing the point. The issue is not whether I am a conservative or a liberal, or my support or opposition to the lottery, or the tobacco tax, or smoking bans, or 2nd amendment rights, or liquor sales on Sunday, or whatever other red herring you might want to toss out for debate. You are actually helping me make my point, there are other issues in this state that need to be addressed that are far more important than the flag. It is sad to see such time, effort and money wasted on such a divisive issue when we have real work to do in this state.

"We should uniquely support it precisely because others uniquely oppose it."

First, do you know the definition of "uniquely"? How can others "uniquely" oppose it? Although I do know what you are saying. My point is if its divisive, then we should not use it period. You can call it PC, but you cannot deny that the KKK use it as symbol of hate.

However, you are right on one thing. I am more concerned with the War on Terror, property rights, taxes, and education than the confederate battle flag. You romanticize the bloodiest war in our history. I guess you can do that, but I am going to continue to be more concerned with issues of the 21st Century.

what about the KKK using the american flag as a symbol of hate?? Better start flying a white flag over the capital so we don't offend anyone.

The flag is only 'divisive' to yankee pissants lacking in testosterone.

The "voluntary tax" argument doesn't hold water because it is not a voluntary tax that is replacing a non voluntary tax. Meaning for every dollar raised by the lottery, a dollar of another tax is not refunded to the people. It is simply more largess on top of what they already collect by force for the government to squander.

Public school, whether primary, secondary or college, is the quintessentially socialist program. It taxes everyone for the benefit of some. I have a novel and conservative idea. Whey not make parents responsible for the cost of their kids education. (And yes before you ask, I have several kids.)

What I am telling you though is that contrary to your assertion, the flag is an extremely important issue because PC is running roughshod over our freedom of speech, freedom of thought, heritage, tradition, etc. It must be faced down and turned back. We will never be able to turn it back, if everybody runs scared. "Oh I might offend someone." "Someone might think I'm a racist."

The citizens of Georgia were promised an unconstitutional vote on a flag by a candidate who was using the issue to drum up votes. The Georgia Constitution is very specific about the issues that are subject to a public referendum, and the state flag isn't one of them - that's why the last vote on the flag was non-binding. Also, no prior Georgia state flag was chosen by popular vote.

This whole "let the people vote" thing is a canard. I don't see anyone here complaining about the "back room deal" that led to the flag change in 1956.
