Most likely some people might be born with certain traits. However, that alone does not a homosexual make. Rather, a dysfunctional environment will exacerbate these people's condition -- especially during adolescence, which is already a vulnerable time. Someone sensitive truly suffers from these insidious messages.
I think that might be the point the author is getting across.
Quite a few gays have experienced some form of abuse in their early years. Maybe this is why sadomasochism is a strong undercurrent in their culture.

There was a post a couple of weeks ago about a study that indicated that nearly fify percent (can't remember the exact figure) of all homosexuals admitted to having been sexually molested by an adult male before the age of fourteen and that the average age difference was eleven years. That pretty much says that in a large percent of the cases, homosexuality is learned.
It succeeds through reinforcement.
They constantly whine that they can't help being gay, that they were born that way and should not be 'punished' for their lifestyle. Yet they are constantly working to recruit children into said 'lifestyle'.
