No co-speakership. Morgan "marginalized," but still co-opted RINO.

It would be interesting to know who in the Republican Caucus actually voted for Richard Morgan, after all the damage that his betrayal has done.

Morgan is a complete RINO. This is bad news for our state.

Raleigh - In an overwhelming vote in the North Carolina House today at approximately 12:30 pm, Rep. Jim Black, D-Mecklenburg, was reelected to the position of Speaker. Rep. Richard Morgan, R-Moore, was elected as the Speaker Pro Tempore. The vote was 100-20.

The outcome of the vote was hardly a suprise to those familiar with the NC House of Representatives. Division among Republicans continues from disagreements during the last session.

Rep. John Rhodes of Mecklenburg registered his displeasure during the voice vote by proclaiming "A Big No" when casting his vote.

Those voting against House Resolution 1 included:

Rep. John Blust, Guilford
Rep. Larry Brown, Forsyth
Rep. Russell Capps, Wake
Rep. George Cleveland, Onslow
Rep. Arlie Culp, Randolph
Rep. Leo Daughtry, Johnston
Rep. Jerry Dockham, Davidson
Rep. Nelson Dollar, Wake
Rep. Dale Folwell, Forsyth
Rep. Jim Gulley, Mecklenburg
Rep. Bryan Holloway, Rockingham
Rep. George Holmes, Surry
Rep. James Langdon, Jr., Johnston
Rep. David Lewis, Harnett
Rep. Ed McMahan, Mecklenburg
Rep. John Rhodes, Mecklenburg
Rep. Paul "Skip" Stam, Wake
Rep. Edgar Starnes, Caldwell
Rep. Trudi Walend, Transylvania
Rep. Laura Wiley, Guilford

The Republican Caucus vote was 37 for and 20 against. However I spoke with a former legislator and he said that only about a dozen of the House members actually support Morgan, but they will vote for it out of fear of retaliation that Morgan can, and has done, to Republican members who cross him. The sad fact is many of the Republican house members have a better relationship with Black, the Democrat than Morgan the Republican.

It is horrible that Republicans should be so terrorized by a member of their own party. A Democrat making your life miserable is understandable, but a fellow Republican? Supposed co-defender of the rights of the voters? That is the part that is awful. You expect problems from the "other ones" but not your own. Unless you are from North Carolina. The rules are very strange here.

I've been thinking about moving to NC from Oregon, where the state's slogan is, "Things look different here."

Would I be making a big mistake?

Well, maybe a GOP guy will be a little better for NC somehow. I don't know - I'm trying to be optimistic!

"We have a lot of RINOs though... "
This is in my opinion a result of actions taken by former Governor Jim Martin(1985-1993). When he entered office Democrats outnumbered Republicans by a 3 to 1 margin. He was determined to make this a two party state. Although his efforts were successful he operated on the belief to give anything to anyone willing to call themselves a Republican. And a belief that the worst Republican was better than the best Democrat, so he promoted a group of RINO's Morgan being one of them up though the system. It is a lesson that some in California have not learned.

As long as the NCGOP keeps this feud public, the Democrats will continue to take advantage of it and keep promoting Morgan. Neither of the Republican factions has the high moral ground here. They are all a bunch of children and this will continue until some adult leadership shows up.

I promise you, Leo Daughtry, John Blust, and the other leaders of the anti-Morgan faction are definitely not adults. If they were sincerely interested in the betterment of the state, they would all resign.

Conservatives need to rally around a Taxpayers Bill of Rights for NC. Americans For Prosperity of NC is pushing for this vital state constitutional amendment that will heal our financial woes.
