Liberalism has ruined Judaism.
I love Rabbi Lapin. Thanks for posting.....
The good rabbi is A-OK in my book, then.
"Use of unnecessary violence in the apprehension of the Blues Brothers has been approved."
I am a gentile. Is it OK to agree with him?
Excellent read. Thanks for posting.
"concupiscent"
Great word!
I thought the movie was funny, but I wasn't prepared for the fact it was 90% a sex farce. It was only rated PG-13 but the topics could not have been anymore adult.
The unnamed 'leader of a famous Jewish defense organization' is crying wolf. When there's something that really matters, the response will be that much slower, perhaps too slow, since the credibility of these kinds of criticisms will have been much diminished.
With a title like that, you were surprised that it was sex-drenched?
Go watch the Mel Brooks movie "The Producers". It will make you feel better about "Meet the Fockers".
What's your point?
I recently came across a roast for Jerry Stiller on cable. It was so foul mouthed that he was uncomfortable. Ben Stiller's stuff has always been too coarse for me. Also we have the Whoopi Goldberg and others thing for the Kerry campaign and performances on the Comedy channel. I think they go way too far and, as the Rabbi said, coarsen our culture.
I, too, saw similarities to the general cultural denegration that occured in Germany between the wars (Cabaret.)
My wife was good friends with a Jewish girl in college, and both were in each others' weddings. It always amazed me at how paranoid her family was that right-wing Christians were out to get them, but rarely even acknowledged the most obvious forms of anti-semitism they faced. I will never forget their disdain for Newt Gingrich and how scared they were when conservatives took over in 1994. At this girl's 21st birthday party, I overheard her mother and several of her friends talking about how the Christians in congress were going to force them to pray to Jesus in schools and remove their Jewish heritage. Now we see well-known liberals trashing Jews and doing more to disparage them than anything Christians ever dreamed of.
Of course, no one bats an eye at the way Hollyweird disparages Christians or how ridiculous they have been portrayed over the years. Glad to see at least one Jewish leader realizing that Hollyweird's depravity has no boundaries!
The good Rabbi rocks! All Lapin posts are highly appreciated
Found Rabbi Lapin's article very interesting. While I haven't seen "The Fockers" I can agree where he is sick and tired of his religion is being denigrated by the Hollywood elite. Even more disturbing is when one's own community takes part in that denigration. I am a Catholic (of sorts) and even though I am not terribly active, it does bother me when one blatantly denigrates the religion I was raised in, although there is plenty that the Catholic Church can be criticized for. I have found recently that more and more conservative Jews are making their voices heard...and I think it's about time. Now is this conservatism emanating from a weariness of the left's attitude toward Israel or is it a genuine change in thinking (personally I think it's a combination of both)? I'll make a very politically incorrect statement. The Jewish community in the US has been very much in the forefront of not only liberal circles, but socialist and marxist ones as well. True, most of those marxist were not observant (oil and water don't mix), but it looks like politically conservative Jews have a big job on their hands battling those within their own community (and I don't envy you guys) Catholics as a group have never been known to be outrageously liberal. True, like Jews we were big supporters of the Democratic party when we thought that it represented the average working people...but our Church really kept us from ever being truly wedded to the left. Now we have a Church whose clergy is probably much more liberal than the average person in the pew, and when that clergy gets overly political most of us just plug up our ear drums. Thank you Rabbi Lapin for speaking your mind.
Rabbi Lapin, you are a man of rare courage. Bless you.
BY the way is Ron Jeremy still alive?
Why does the humor work and what does it say about complete trust.
