Yes folks, I know it's a couple of hours away, but for you loyal C-Span listeners, the debate will be carried live on C-Span 2 today. Live streaming on C-Span 2's server for those of you with high bandwidth carriers.
Box-o-Rox has asked for a full hour in which to call Dr. Rice a lying slut. Meantime, the senior Senator from the state of West Virginia has brought some friends of his down to testify to Rice's unfitness for her office:
Other Dhimmis have asked for time to object to Dr. Rice as well. Meantime, I wonder if McCain or Hagel will actually rise to her defense?
(...sound of crickets...)
Arlen Specter? Anybody?
Be Seeing You,
Chris
Oh. And they think that's appropriate for Senate confirmation hearings. Figures.
The dimms are so darn lucky that no one but us ever watches them.
I got here late. What are the debate procedures? An hour per side, alternating?
Levin charges that "Dr. Rice's answers unravel" by saying if her representation on the state of what we, the U.S. knew, the SOTU speech would have stated that "We believe" rather than citing "The British have learned".
Earth to Levin: The U.S. can "believe" something yet not be satisfied completely with the intelligence gathered on our own but know the British were. It appears to me that the reference should satisfy him rather than displease him.
The essence of Senator Carl "The Homonculus" Levin's comments is that we must never consider or tolerate independent intelligence assesments (when the president has an "R" after his name).
I confess I'm not sure of the exact rules. I just know nine hours...
Levin now citing Rice's comments (and he's giving dates) of a relationship between Iraq and Al Qaeda.
These comments provided certainty that Iraq provided training and chemical weapons to Al Qaeda, yet he says the intelligence was only a possibility yet Dr. Rice portrayed it as a fact.
Levin runs out of time and asks that the remainder of his comments and his questions of Dr. Rice be inserted in the record.
Oh, he's got a minute left. Confirming her, he says, would be to overlook the lies told by the administration and the hubris demonstrated by the overthrow of Saddam Hussein and the ongoing tragic results.
He cannot give his support and will therefore vote against Dr. Rice.
We must add "Hubris" to the Buzz word count.
"Sen. Mark Dayton complaining"
Hubris!, not the Hubris!
Lugar stands up and says when they reconvene after lunch at 2:15 he proposes the speakers go in a certain order but I was not able to type quickly enough to take it down. I do believe he suggested McConnell then Byrd, then Hagel then Boxer? And he went on to list other names.
Kay Bailey Hutchinson up and asks if Sen. Bayh can go next and she would like to follow and then I believe they will break.
Bayh up.
Evan Bayh from Indiana up now, then Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas up next.
Bayh is going to vote against Rice.
"A principle architect of policy errors".
"Those in charge must be accountable for their mistakes"
If they are republicans.
Hagel said that debate was only scheduled till 5:30PM eastern, so if there are no Senators waiting to speak they may adjourn them..
Bayh's definitely running for president, then....Lieberman's time has been allocated to Lugar....is Sheets gonna speak for 4 hours?. I heard that's what he asked for...will they have paramedics in the cloakroom?
Bayh's vote surprises me.
So much for bi-partisanship.
Cheney's busy taking notes about whose district he's going to visit come election time.
