State, Wayne, and Monroe officials were called to the Fermi II nuclear plant in Monroe early Monday evening to investigate what they would only call a "situation".
Authorities told Action News just after 6:00 that they were responding to some kind of situation within the plant.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission was notified that the coolant surrounding the reactor core had reached above 75 parts per million. Anytime coolant levels exceed 50, the NRC must be notified, according to a report from NBC News.
It has something to do with Tom Delay and the cold weather we are experiencing from global warming

Man I didn't know she was your sister. No hard feelings, OK?
Don't sweat it. Truth is, she might not say it, but she kind of digs dewlaps . . . |
Back in the big blackout that plant was one of the first to go offline. At the time, I raised the issue of the utility utilizing wireless laptops to do at least some control functions and the possibility that AQ might figure something out. I suppose the possibility that an intentional glitch at Fermi being the cause of the blackout was mostly discounted, but my concern about op sec stands.

Would one of the daughter's been considered the 'belly dancer"?
I believe the talking heads are confusing ppm with gpm, but even at that they have their facts wrong.

Hmmmm...don't know, but will ponder it. :-)

Hi Jimbo123,
There is no threat at all really. A leakrate of 75 gpm is something that will be addressed by the station but is not dangerous. The station probably lost a recirc pump seal. This will result in a shutdown and repair activity but no danger to anyone. Makeup capability for this station is on the order of 30,000 gpm from low pressure systems. I don't remember the exact number for Fermi 2 but this is ball park.
Nuke plants shut down all the time.
Went through this circus with the Y2K nuts back on that one message board (the name of which escapes me) in 2000. In early January 2000 they were having orgasms over every shutdown or reported maintainance problem.
You must be talking about the "Greenspun" board (or something like that). They have since situated themselves here: http://www.timebomb2000.com/

Definitive Article on Y2K
Yep,
That was it.
If you think I get into some flamewars here...there...wow. I had a lot of fun, though (and I was there months before Jan. 1 2000 predicting nothing much would happen.)
It was hilarious watching the nutters prowling the newswires of every third world country looking for anything they could blame on Y2K..power outages in India (where they happen all the time anyway), etc.
Back in the big blackout that plant was one of the first to go offline. They (the Nuclear plants) are DESIGNED to go off line with the loss the AC power from the grid ...
The way you described it, you sound like CBSNBCABCCNN and the AP in that this was abnormnal and unplanned!
Only in Wayne County. Monroe is Kentucky/Tennessee/Alabama North and the remainder is very rural. Don't lump us in with Dearbornistan.
