For the first time in my 45 years I attended an inaugural ball. Well actually two on back to back nights. What struck me about my experience is how very different they were.

Just in case you haven't seen this. The green with envy color still hasn't left my complexion.
P.J. O'Rourke described an inagural ball in 1988 thusly - Your rented tux itches. There are 25,000 Republicans between you and the bar. The Marine band is playing oompah music. This is what people did for entertainment before fun was invented.

Me too.
This might be an interesting article if there weren't a big ad over it, obscuring my ability to read it. The ad forces me to sign up for their newsletter (hoping that the ad will go away.) I sign up -- no such luck. The ad is still there. Now I'm so irritated that I will unsubscribe as soon as my confirmation comes!!! Grrrrrrr.
I send 14-21 students to the Washington Plaza hotel every March for the Model African Union. It was nice seeing it in print here. Hope you all had a great time. Sounds like you did!
Sounds like P.J. O'Rourke needs to receive an invitation to a Freeper Ball.
Woo hoo!! FReepers ROCK!!
W needs to come to our Ball next time. No waltzing will be expected just some good ol rock and roll!
Don't know if Freepers invented fun but they sure were born to be wild!
Any truth to the rumour that the next national Freeper gathering will be in Hot Springs?
I volunteered at the Constitution Ball last Thursday night, so I couldn't attend the FReeper bash. But I wish I could have done both. It sounds like it was a blast.
Of that there can be no doubt. :)
I AM THERE next time around.
Anybody who had attended the 2001 FR Inaugural Ball and Count the White House Silverware Party knew this would be another rocking affair!! Great job as usual.
I heard that was just a premature calculation.
It was the best. Our driver remarked about the up beat attitude of attendees he dropped off at the Washington Plaza for the Free Republic's Ball. Now the word is bound to get around D.C. And did you see that constant smile on Jim's face. That joy was felt by all. By the way Jim, thanks for autographing my copy of Richard Poe's book, "Hillary's Secret War". It made good reading on the flight back to the sunny left coast. The cover alone was enough to get me some cold stares. Bring it on! Looking forward to freeping and another celebration in 2009.
