I'm not sure what we will have to work with as far as establishing 'FR Central' but I'm pinging Nick since he is familiar with the RR building. There are three restaurants I think, but I don't know if they have a bar area.

We can all meet for booth set up, which will probably be around 3pm or 4pm and hopefully it won't conflict with the WH briefing.

Send me or Libertina a cell number and we can give you an update as to our whereabouts.

Across the street sounds good! I'm sure you'll keep us posted as to the location of 'FR Central'. Thanks in advance...

This is a big federal office building, so don't expect bars and lounges. There is a food court similar to one you would find in a shopping mall, and catered events can be held in the various meeting rooms. There are a number of bars and restaurants in the area, but I suspect most people will gravitate toward the J.W. Marriott, just because it is across the street.

Leaving the RR building for any reason, including just grabbing a smoke outside, means re-entering via the ID-cop and the metal detectors. Do not leave the bldg without your id; you may not get back in.

The RR bldg is connected via passageway to the Federal Triangle Metro stop, so if you have time to blow you can zip up to Metro Center or Farragut West and emerge in the middle of a million bars and restaurants.

How was the Washington Plaza?

That's where I, and about ten others that I know of, will be staying. That's about a mile from the RR bldg.

See the info at post #11.

I got a great rate. I hope that the rooms are great too. I figured that it had to be okay since that's where the FR Ball was held.

I still have a room or two available, and *may* be able to get more if needed.

How was the Washington Plaza?

The Washington Plaza hotel has a really nice bar and the restaurant and ballrooms were great venues for both the W2 Ball and for the pre-Inaugural dinner. The staff seemed helpful and friendly from what I experienced. I thought the food was very good also. Zelig and I did not stay in the Washington Plaza. I'll ping a few FReepers whom I believe stayed there...

JimRob, basil, Repub4bush: Did you stay at the Washington Plaza hotel? If so, how was your room? Thanks.

Hmmm... I'll run this by my husband ("zelig"). Sounds good. If you have someone else interested, though, don't hold up a room waiting for us! I'll get back to you on this ASAP. Thanks, Badray! :-)

Ray-- I stayed at the Wash. Plaza and I had mixed feelings about the room. Mostly small things -----but the most important to me was the internet connection. Most places have a phone with 2 lines on it so that you can connect to the internet, and not tie up the phone. They didn't have it. And there was not a phone on the desk with a port available. I disconnected the phone and used the wall thingy to connect.

One other small thing was not having a mirror outside the bathroom. Not good when the room has a couple of women!!

No chair other than the desk chair -- in other words, no easy chair.

The acoustics in the bathroom were terrible, BUT the shower head was nice and wide. Great! Also, the hot water faucet was hot as soon as you turned it on.

I roomed with ELS and had asked for 2 double beds, They gave us a king. I asked if they had doubles. They moved us to a room that had a noisy machine outside the window. The room withthe king bed also didn't have a separate internet connection.

I've stayed in all kinds of places in DC and I am not fussy at all (!really!), but the room didn't meet the standards of other places, no matter the room cost.

BUT-- They DID have the FOX NEWS channel!!

And I'll make sure to broadcast as soon as I find out!

So looking forward to CPAC that I made sure to clear whole week for this event so will be very glad to help set up Wednesday; work the booth (more fun than it is work!); whatever is needed.

Our Candlewood Suites (part of the Holiday Inn chain) way out in Fairfax, VA did NOT have Fox News. :-(
But we had a great high-speed internet connection in the room.

Great to hear you are attending the White House policy briefing too! Can't wait!!! I am staying at the JW Marriott. If you want, we can meet there, and walk over together.

That sounds like a great idea! I'll ping or FReepmail you as we get closer to the date...

Do you know what this White House policy briefing is all about? I didn't know about it until today when ACU called. If it's on the CPAC website, I missed it.

I haven't been to the building/shrine yet. Any chance close to Ebbetts? Damn, been away too long. Not spelling the bar name correctly and I haven't even been in there yet! Old Ebbott's Grill? 15th Street? Thought close to the JW Mariott? I'll get my "Bar Map" out tomorrow and provide some suggestions.

CALLING ON ANY FREEPER IN THE DC AREA interested and available to do a scouting trip this Saturday, please let me know if you would like to hook up to do the tour: ISO watering holes! Will try to find both interesting and convenient: bars, restaurants, "discos." (This is my kind of assignment!) Metro used to do a great map with all of the stops and points of interest (NOT The BARS of course!); will try to get as many updates as I can to supply at our booth in addition to the AAA and Chamber of Commerce books I ordered. And of course, I could join 21st century and check out the internet!

(Hey BobJ; look forward to seeing you all again. What is name of conference/hotel place where you are staying? Going to Pentagon for lunch Thursday or Friday and will hop on subway into town and check out. Crystal City was convenient, huh? But I'm sure not as impressive as this will be.)

Somehow I doubt it.

Received the invitation back in December. No details available about the WH briefing to date. They will be sending a letter soon with more info. With all the inauguration festivities, they have been busy.

Mirrors scare me.

I rarely speak on the phone when I'm in a hotel.

I don't know how to use that Internet thingy.

Thanks for the info. I figure that for the few hours that I will spend there, I'll be able to put up with some small inconveniences.

But, since I'm rooming with another guy, there better not be a mixup with the beds or I'll have to sleep in the chair. ;-)
