I always thought Army combat robots would look more like "Ziggo" from "Battlebots".

a soldier could typically hit a watermelon at 300 meters. At that same distance, Quinn says, the SWORDS system could "hit a target the size of a nickel." Good to know we'll be ready when the watermelons & nickles gang up to attack us!

Other advantages include the fact that the robots do not need sleep, food, or water. They don't require training; they will not be susceptible to battle fatigue;Oh great. It doesn't eat, it doesn't sleep and it absolutely will not stop until you are dead. What could possibly go wrong!

Like all weapons systems I'm sure this one will have it's vulnerabilities. When it is deployed against an enemy those faults will become readily apparent. The article doesn't say much about defensive components such as armor. At 180 lbs it sounds a bit light. I don't think it will be able to handle an rpg very well but then, anything that will help keep our men from harm is worth a try. I wonder what role it be be used in. Recon?

I can see it now, George Stephanopolus interviews Mr. and Mrs. Toaster, the parents of the slain battle robot who was drafted into service in pursuit of Mr. Bush's increasingly unpopular war.
