WASHINGTON - Sen. Joseph Biden, a senior Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said Sunday he was leaning against confirmation of Alberto Gonzales, President Bush's choice to be the next attorney general.
Bush's choice of his White House counsel to be the nation's top lawman, "may very well do us more harm internationally because of its relationship with the terror memos," the senator from Delaware said on the ABC News program "This Week."
"My inclination right now is to vote against him," Biden said. He is the third ranking Democrat on the panel.
Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee postponed a vote on Gonzales' nomination after Democrats charged he had evaded their questions about Bush administration policies on the treatment of prisoners captured during U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been criticized for his role in shaping those policies.

I'm disappointed to hear this from you. The supporting the RKBA is the cornerstone of conservatism. Without it, everything else is irrelevant.
Too bad....his party is out of power and will be for a long time. Joe Biden is irrelevant in politics. He can pontificate all he wishes....only democrats care what he has to think about things.
All of us have certain issues which are deal breakers. For many FRepers, it is the 2nd Amendment. For others, it is abortion. For others, it is the war on terror. We can comprimise on other issues, but will not on ohers. It's human nature.
Way to generalize. I happily supported Bush but think that Gonzales sucks.
I have no doubt that you are familiar with the Constitution, but perhaps you should read the Federalist Papers. Once you realize the original intent of the 2nd Amendment, I bet you would be more liable to recognize the importance of gun rights.
It's a matter of trust, sinkspur. I simply cannot trust a man to become the nation's top law enforcement agent if he does not trust me with firearms.
Besides, fromreading his comments on the issue, I'm convinved that Gonzales is not simply BSing on the issue like Bush did. He truly supports the AWB.
What?!?
If Gonzales doesn't get confirmed, Bush should ask Ashcroft to stay on. Ashcroft is cool. That'll teach 'em.
Would be a good project for some 527s rather than the RNC. However congressional Republicans need to step forward on this but do you know any that has....say Zell cajones?
read what he said.
instead of just lip service, he chipped in the usual 'my brother is a cop and I'm afraid about him going up against these dangerous guns' line that the anti's use.
But, since you guys belong to the OBL, you wouldn't understand that, would you?
Did Biden say this or is he just repeating what someone else said?
I agree. John is a good man.
"Xenophobes and racists" are people who don't consider persons of Hispanic ancestry to be "real Americans."
.
"Your position is one either of ignorance or malice. History has shown repeatedly that nations that lose their borders cease to be a unified nation."
Give us five examples.
You have this uncanny knack for distorting other people's words.
"Real Americans" tend to be patriots who love this country's traditions, culture and language. Those "hispanics" you refer to are "real americans" even if they sneak in from Honduras, violate our laws, have no intention of assimilating (ie learn the language, customs and laws) and might leave if after a number of years they aren't able to smuggle in the rest of their family.
Give us five examples.

Clearly you know nothing of Bosnia (for a very recent example), Rome, Greece, Egypt and Persia. They lost their borders and they lost their culture.
Then of course there is the Middle East where the borders were drawn according to the British Mandate rather than along cultural lines.
Perhaps you can explain why the Chinese are colonizing Tibet? To dilute the population and abosrb them into greater China? Why do you suppose India and Pakistan fight over the Kashmir?
I can hardly wait to see how you twist the facts...
Yes.
Condi and Jeb either way is a landslide victory. Condi would clinch the nomination if she announced Jeb as her running mate when she announces her candidacy. All the Reagan Democrats and Independents would be on board.
