Biden Says He Is Leaning Against Gonzales Confirmation

WASHINGTON - Sen. Joseph Biden, a senior Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said Sunday he was leaning against confirmation of Alberto Gonzales, President Bush's choice to be the next attorney general.

Bush's choice of his White House counsel to be the nation's top lawman, "may very well do us more harm internationally because of its relationship with the terror memos," the senator from Delaware said on the ABC News program "This Week."

"My inclination right now is to vote against him," Biden said. He is the third ranking Democrat on the panel.

Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee postponed a vote on Gonzales' nomination after Democrats charged he had evaded their questions about Bush administration policies on the treatment of prisoners captured during U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been criticized for his role in shaping those policies.

A little pot stirring by the democrats... Condi got out with two dissenting votes... Looks like Gonzales will have a few more but will be voted out of the Committee, imo.

If Gonzales has the same view as President Bush concerning those who've stolen their way into the U.S., who steal and forge documents to "work" and draw public funded compensation, then Biden may be wiser than the Nominee.

Well Hillary does have to pick someone to run with. Chosing Boxer would keep it in the family.

Can you imagine a more disgusting ticket?

And Biden would vote against him for that reason[s]? I'd think the democrats would won't them here by the droves to increase their constituency...

I am forever grateful to the fine people who ran Bush's campaign. In the face of MILLIONS of fraudulent votes cast by felons, illegals, multiple voters, operatives stealing absentee ballots or marking them for nursing home residents, etc., we still won. Kerry got MILLIONS more votes than Clinton did to beat Bob Dole.

This happened because MILLIONS of conservatives knew we had to win or it would be 30 years before conservatism could rise again.

Will we have another Bob Dole in 2008? If we lose sight of RKBA and other issues, we probably will.

Well, Dane, seems your prediction in your post 7 was correct.

See post 62: "If Gonzales has the same view as President Bush concerning those who've stolen their way into the U.S., who steal and forge documents to "work" and draw public funded compensation, then Biden may be wiser than the Nominee."

More of our finest FReepers preferring Biden to Bush, while proclaiming themselves to be conservatives.

If Gonzales is an RKBA sellout, that isn't going to get anyone crawling across broken glass to vote.

There's your problem. It is very important that the base see that their faith has been well placed.

The dropout voter is the person we have most to fear.

More spew, Dane? Would you like to offer some proof of that statement? Give it a try, it'll be a first for you.

Ah, the RINO herders:

Vote RINO, so the gun grabbing feels better!

RINO taxes are so much easier to bear!

RINO bureaucrats expand government much more thoughtfully than Democrats!

Did you think Bernie Kerik was a good choice? A cop who had developed into a priviledged apparatchik?

Maybe, just maybe, it would be better for Republicans to upgrade their nominees so jerks like Biden can't tee off on them.

No. I prefer high qulity nominees that can't be tripped up by hair plug cases like Joe Biden.

Lugar.

The only thing I see Lugar running for is president of the Shady Pines Retirement Home.
