Biden Says He Is Leaning Against Gonzales Confirmation

WASHINGTON - Sen. Joseph Biden, a senior Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said Sunday he was leaning against confirmation of Alberto Gonzales, President Bush's choice to be the next attorney general.

Bush's choice of his White House counsel to be the nation's top lawman, "may very well do us more harm internationally because of its relationship with the terror memos," the senator from Delaware said on the ABC News program "This Week."

"My inclination right now is to vote against him," Biden said. He is the third ranking Democrat on the panel.

Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee postponed a vote on Gonzales' nomination after Democrats charged he had evaded their questions about Bush administration policies on the treatment of prisoners captured during U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been criticized for his role in shaping those policies.

Not to mention, that the AWB is DEAD, and if resurrected, it won't be by any Attorney General, but Congress.

These are just red herrings, that people are using to attack our own.

Ah, the RINO herders: Vote RINO, so the gun grabbing feels better!

RINO taxes are so much easier to bear!

RINO bureaucrats expand government much more thoughtfully than Democrats!

As to voting for another viable party with a gnat's a$$ chance in he!! to achieve a political power base other than the Republican party which has at least turned the tides of 40 years of liberalism destruction under the lead of Dubya'?

I'll take the slow sure path instead of the "knee jerk" reaction any day.

Best wishes finding a president you agree with 100% of the time on 100% of the issues.

"Republicans have to WIN elections by energizing conservatives. "

FGS, who on earth posted that?????

For everybody NOT paying attention, the GOP is more enerized as they are right this minute.

And they are a very small minority of FR members.

With a very loud font.

Ho ho ho. The Race Card is played.

You will find it difficult to fill THAT inside straight.

Who DIDN'T support Condi Rice? Who DIDN'T have qualms about Colin Powell? Who WOULDN'T want Thomas as Chief Justice?

Color no longer matters. The best come in all colors. But Gonzales, if he is limp on RKBA, just isn't one of the best.

that people are using to attack our own.

Our own? They're not part of us; never supported Bush; in fact, actively worked against him.

The Race Card is played.

I am fascinated by the fact that you all WANT to play the race card, but get all in a twit when called on it.

New take on an old joke:

John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Barbara Boxer, and Joe Biden are on a boat. It begins to sink.
Kerry immediately leaps to his feet and says, “Save the women!”
Kennedy replies, “Screw the women.”
Boxer says, “Have we got time?”
and Biden says, “Have we got time?”

Bush also won despite the efforts of the Buchanan/Tancredo crowd to undermine his support among anti-immigrants. Buchanan and Tancredo could make a lot more money off their mailing list if they had a Democrat president to use to frighten xenophobes and racists.

Of course I won't. But that doesn't mean I need to support all his nominees.

I'm glad Powell is gone. I'm hoping for Thomas for Chief. I judge Gonzales on his merits. And I'm not getting any answers on what is more important than RKBA at DoJ.

Ashcroft was not an A player. We have an opportunity, just like Powell leaving, which became a huge win. Gonzales looks like a missed opportunity.

"That isn't near the top of the list."

Oh yes it is--#2 as a matter of fact. Read the US Constitution.

I like Bush a lot better than the alternatives, but do you people have any reservations at all with him?? This thoughtless obeisance to everything Bush is very unnerving. Indeed, any legitimate criticism is met with derision, but the derision borders on the sophomoric, much like what one reads at DU.

Well, we disagree on Ashcroft, who in my opinion was the man for the hour vis-a-vis national security. Alas, he'll probably never get his due....largely because so many hate him for his faith beliefs...though they are loathe to admit that underlying hatred.

As for Gonzales, I'm willing to give the president his choice on this one....as I was with his choice of Powell. I think Gonzales is green, but can be brought along. I'm willing to give it time. And let's face it, he isn't going to have much of that at this post.

You know, I'm really sick of you all acting like the rest of us are just hearing about the Constitution.

I clearly said that I am capable of deciding for MYSELF what is important.........do you not understand plain English?

You were trying to establish some kind of pattern where there is none.

Asa Hutchinson was, thank God, shot down waaaay early in his quest for HSA. So am I anti-white?

I just despise RINO idiots. They make us lose. Show me Gonzales isn't one of them.

Indeed, any legitimate criticism is met with derision, but the derision borders on the sophomoric, much like what one reads at DU.

Most of the criticism is sophomoric, like the RKBA argument made on this thread.

No serious person thinks the AWB is going to be revived, yet it's being used as an excuse to refuse confirmation to Gonzales.

Dopey in the extreme.

Bush also won despite the efforts of the Buchanan/Tancredo crowd to undermine his support among anti-immigrants.

It must just kill them that it was Hispanics that gave Bush the edge he needed this year.

Buchanan and Tancredo could make a lot more money off their mailing list if they had a Democrat president to use to frighten xenophobes and racists.

Taking a cue from Judicial Watch and Keyes, no doubt.
