From the beginning of December through mid-January, 4.78 percent of Internet surfers studied by online measurement company WebSideStory used the Mozilla Foundation's FireFox browser, a gain of 0.88 percentage points. At the same time, IE usage declined 0.7 percent to 92.7 percent, the firm reported. WebSideStory said IE use has declined from 96.7 percent since June.

Look for a Firefox plug-in. If it's only written in a proprietary Microsoft language, you might be out of luck.

>>shell out for Longhorn, the codename for Microsoft's next OS

They should rename it to LongWait instead of longhorn...

I prefer Opera, myself.

That's cool. What's interesting is that you'll never see anyone say "I prefer IE, myself."

I use Firefox; took me 2 minutes to decide to switch from Netscape 7. Have always avoided Internet Exploder; it supersucks.

This thread will fix that problem.

I've been using FireFox for about three months and everything loads as well and as quickly as IE. Before that, I used Netscape which was far better than IE. Proble with IE was that the browser got hijacked, and once I killed the hijacker IE would never access the net. Couldn't uninstall and reinstall it to fix it since it's so embedded in XP. So, after all that, I'm happy as a clam with FireFox and Netscape.

I wish FireFox would save the URLs of my open tabs like Opera does. There was a plug-in or something to do this but it was obsolete the last time I checked.

I had gone strictly to FireFox for awhile, but it seems to freeze on me when I use certain java based applications, now I am finding I am splitting the load between IE and Firefox more. Especially since IE introduced more security and has its built in pop-up blocker, which works exactly like FireFox's.

I'm not sure what you mean, but Firefox has a couple of extensions that might do that. Have you checked out Tabbrowser Extension? My tab menu (from browser) shows several tab options--duplicate, lock, reload, etc.

Nah, they should be honest and rename it to "It's Not Tiger, Really!"

Bet you anything that Expose will appear in Longhorn under the guise of an advanced task switcher.

You're right. I probably stored it wrong in my head because my workhorse machine is still running Windows 98 (first edition), so it just won't be supported on my machine.
All these people talking about Firefox being slow cause me to be envious. I'm out in the woods, so I'm lucky if my dial-up works. It'll be the next century before I get any broadband (except satellite, but they want half my land and my first born to install it.)

At the rate MS is yanking features out of Longhorn in order to make the 2006 deadline, Ersatzposé will probably be the only "improvement" left when it comes out!

Or pretty much, Longhorn will just become a slightly improved WinXP. They're releasing limited versions of Avalon and Indigo later this year for XP.

Opera is a good browser, though it's been a while since I've used it. For those who find firefox to be too slow, you might check out This link, which is a thread with some helpful hints for speeding up firefox.

I think by now every Microsoft user has been screwed badly at least once by their software; aren't many folks masochistic enough to try and defend them any more.
