Dennis Hopper should be hopping mad, some Hollywood actors said this week.
Hopper, who organized The Creative Coalition's Ball after the Ball Thursday night as part of the activities surrounding President Bush's inauguration, apparently got a surprise phone call from the Presidential Inaugural Committee Wednesday night - telling him not to come to his own party.
"I feel terrible that the White House inaugural committee that invited Dennis decided to disinvite him," "Sopranos" actor Joe Pantoliano told reporters at the event, where the entertainment - aside from mingling with some of Tinseltown's stars - was singer Macy Gray.
Hopper reportedly was not given an explanation for the insult. A call to the PIC had not been returned by press time.
Thursday's ball at the Reagan Building in Washington featured names such as Pantoliano - the group's co-director - along with actor and director Tony Goldwyn, Mario Van Peebles, Joe Piscopo, Matthew Modine and other actors. Various politicos like Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., also attended.
But many were sorry about the absence of Hopper, who was the organizer and chair of the event and who personally wrote letters to and called the evening's headliners to invite them.
"I was very disappointed. I was told he was all of a sudden disinvited by the Inaugural Committee ... but he's with us in spirit," Goldwyn, who played the dark character Carl Bruner in the 1990 smash-hit "Ghost," and more recently co-starred in "The Last Samurai," told reporters on the red carpet Thursday.
Hopper, a Hollywood icon and long-time actor, director and producer who has starred in films such as "Speed," "Easy Rider" and "Apocalypse Now," is a hard-core supporter of Bush, although his wife did partake in fund-raising activities for Sen. John Kerry, Bush's Democratic challenger in the 2004 presidential election.

Thanks for being so bold. I never get away with it.
I agree!!!
>>so Hopper has no idea how to get big PR for himself? And somehow this guy is vital to the GOP's interests?<<
Where is it written that a star has to make a big issue about his political beliefs? Maybe he's as tired of that as the rest of us.
And who said he is vital to the GOP's interest? Maybe he's just a guy who supports Bush and doesn't make a big deal of it.
Maybe you should write him a nasty letter.
The ugly side of Republicanism. I see it here on FR more than makes me comfortable.
geez...who are the anally retentive handling this sort of things?
It's on Google through some public interest party.
You know, maybe Hopper's phone call didn't come from any official source at all. This all seems really sketchy and not like the WH at all. They would have cancelled Macy Gray if they would have cancelled anyone.
Agreed. There's something fishy about this story. We shouldn't take it at face-value.
Nah. I don't buy this. Something else is going on. Let's find out what it is like we always have...
"Agreed. There's something fishy about this story. We shouldn't take it at face-value."
You can wait if you want. I say we form a lynch-mob.

Hey! You beat me by 12 seconds to question this.
I understand that, since you stated that in your original post. What I'm wondering is why that information does not show up on opensecrets.org. They are supposed to have data on ALL political contributions. If he gave $50K, and it doesn't show up in the opensecrets database, then did the Kerry campaign not report the contribution, as they are required to do by law? Or, is the information you found incorrect.
The report from the Freedom Ball: warm champagne and $5 beer. At the Patriot Ball, one disgruntled reveler complained, "There's no beef. There's no shrimp. This is the worst ball I've ever been to."
Hill Harper, an actor on "CSI New York," attended a sold-out event hosted by the Creative Coalition, a nonpartisan advocacy group for actors, writers, singers and other members of the entertainment industry.
Harper looked at an empty dance floor at 10:45 p.m.: "It doesn't seem like the most exciting crowd. Maybe we'll see some table dancing, maybe some stripping, maybe somebody will show some leg." - Friday, January 21, 2005 · Last updated 12:00 a.m. PT Bush dashes through night of celebrations
According to a New York Post source, Hopper was uninvited after religious groups complained about his dubious history, but a friend said he didn't go because of work reasons. Variety, however, said Hopper's appearance was KO'd because wife Victoria Duffy was a Kerry supporter.-Posted on Fri, Jan. 21, 2005 THE BUZZ
They report, you decide !
Sorry. 2 minutes and 12 seconds.
Hopper IS a great actor. If you doubt me, check out the scene in TRUE ROMANCE where he faces off with Christoper Walken--one of the greatest in movie history (unless you're Sicillian, that is). Hint--Hopper is the normal one.
I understand Hopper's wife is a staunch, very liberal Democrat. Maybe she talked him out of attending.
I just don't buy the story as it's written.
saw easy rider
heck i lived it and survived.
to some here ...one has to be a 100% FReeper Bushbot to be eligible to attend anything with an R on it.
Well..I gave about 4.5% of my pretax gross and fought those "Peace and Justice Center" pricks here for W when he visited or they marched and corraled at least a dozen voters for our side.
But...I'm a bit wild and disagree with W on some issues.
Doesn't that make me unwanted?
These high and mightys can kiss my butt...Hopper....eccentric as ever is damn sure welcome at my table.
this sort of thing makes us look like prigs.
That is a great scene in True Romance--full of Tarantino dialogue :)
Second, Dennis Hopper has done a lot of good film work other than in "Easy Rider." He was particularly good as "Shooter," the alcoholic father of a high school basketball player in the movie, "Hoosiers."
