Dennis Hopper should be hopping mad, some Hollywood actors said this week.
Hopper, who organized The Creative Coalition's Ball after the Ball Thursday night as part of the activities surrounding President Bush's inauguration, apparently got a surprise phone call from the Presidential Inaugural Committee Wednesday night - telling him not to come to his own party.
"I feel terrible that the White House inaugural committee that invited Dennis decided to disinvite him," "Sopranos" actor Joe Pantoliano told reporters at the event, where the entertainment - aside from mingling with some of Tinseltown's stars - was singer Macy Gray.
Hopper reportedly was not given an explanation for the insult. A call to the PIC had not been returned by press time.
Thursday's ball at the Reagan Building in Washington featured names such as Pantoliano - the group's co-director - along with actor and director Tony Goldwyn, Mario Van Peebles, Joe Piscopo, Matthew Modine and other actors. Various politicos like Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., also attended.
But many were sorry about the absence of Hopper, who was the organizer and chair of the event and who personally wrote letters to and called the evening's headliners to invite them.
"I was very disappointed. I was told he was all of a sudden disinvited by the Inaugural Committee ... but he's with us in spirit," Goldwyn, who played the dark character Carl Bruner in the 1990 smash-hit "Ghost," and more recently co-starred in "The Last Samurai," told reporters on the red carpet Thursday.
Hopper, a Hollywood icon and long-time actor, director and producer who has starred in films such as "Speed," "Easy Rider" and "Apocalypse Now," is a hard-core supporter of Bush, although his wife did partake in fund-raising activities for Sen. John Kerry, Bush's Democratic challenger in the 2004 presidential election.

Have you gone there? They have quite a nice database. Some people might (in fact, they do) say the same thing about FR. I'm sorry, but I never would consider Hopper a Republican. At this point, until someone can show that it is wrong, I still think Hopper is a Dem. I just can't figure out what value there is in lying about Hopper's contributions. Gotta run now...but will pick up the trail tomorrow:)
Tell me your impressions there:)
Pretty much the same thought I had when I saw that Arlen Specter was there.
The one where he plays a big game hunter and "hires" a guy to be hunted, without the guy knowing what he's in store for?........Seeing Andy "the sheriff" Taylor doing that blew my mind.
FMCDH(BITS)
he is in the new Romero zombie film "Land of the Dead" due next october. I would have invited him for that alone.

I saw that one, but I barely remember it. It was made in the '70s and co-starred James Best (Roscoe P. Coltrane on the Dukes of Hazzard) and Sam Bottoms. Bottoms was the guy Griffith was hunting through the desert, IIRC.
LOL. Good one!
He supports the troops but not the President. There is a difference.
Hopper deserves a personal audience with the pres
According to the articles I'm finding on Google, it appears that Hopper voted for Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush (twice).
He seems to be a supporter of the President. Does he have to divorce his Democrat wife in order to prove it?
I seem to recall hearing Joey Pants on some TV show before the election and he was NOT on W's side at that time. I was surprised to see him at one of the Balls.
No, and he's no friend of W, either. Let's not get this myth started, he's a Friend of Bill, attends the Demo conventions, and fundraises for the Dems like the rest of em. They had a Ball last night because, surprise, they WANT something from govt...whodathunkit.
We can kiss California, New York, Illinois goodbye for generations with this attitude. Soon states with booming population growth like Virgina, Florida, Colorado and even Georgia will be gone. We don't NEED celebrities, but we as a party can't continue to be so uptight and we can't let the theocons chase everyone away.
People in America are staying single later and later in life. This crowd, the "South Park Republicans", doesn't care for the uptight nature of the theocons - in fact, it scares them away.
Yep. If you're not a theocon you're part of the moral decay of this nation.
Who are Farah and Dobson?
Joseph Farah ( owns and writes for WorldNetDaily.com) and Dr. James Dobson, Christian leader.
Not sure why they are being accused in this, and no one seems to have any evidence of a connection, or if they do it hasn't been presented to me, despite requests.
There is a lynch mob forming anyway, it seems.
Me? Just a curious bystander interested in "just the facts, ma'am."
:-)
He supports anyone who will further his causes, doesn't matter if the President is a Dem or Rep.
This little bash was an unofficial ball and the PIC has no control over it.
It would be akin to the PIC calling jwalsh07 and telling me not to attned the FR ball. I tell them to kiss my ass and done.
Wow, by Irish, you mean IRISH.
I'm part Irish too. But I've never been there. Cool!
Say hello to the Lucky Charms guy for me (just kidding!)
:-))))
