A HERO SALUTES
|
|
Casey Owens, a wounded Marine, salutes as his mother Janna Owens cries during the inaugural speech by President Bush. The president pledged to work to heal a country divided by the Iraq war. "We have known divisions, which must be healed to move forward in great purposes, and I will strive in good faith to heal them."

Pride in country and Corps, honor to serve, integrity, discipline and professionalism are all words that come to mind when I see a young man like this. I feel a deep sense of respect for someone who lives by a code such as he does. Hes no sunshine warrior and his nation should be proud as he should be. These guys are incredible.
It is on the backs of men like this that our great nation is built.

I too can't think of words good enough to describe the feeling I have about seeing this picture of this marine. I wish I could help him and others, somehow, to let them know how much I appreciate them. God Bless him and all our troops. This picture should be a front page headline.

I see it that
all that this photo exudes,
trumps and
reveals any detractive attached commentary. That's part of what makes the very essence of the
photo so powerful.
The photo is absolutely untouchable.

Ehm... what happens to wounded soldiers who cannot fully recover to return to duty? Will they be discharged? And how much time is between, say, losing a leg and the (honorable) discharge?
