WASHINGTON The Republican National Committee knows who its next leader will be, but the Democratic National Committee is still debating its choice. Democratic activists with great sway in the DNC are moving toward Howard Dean (search).
Aides to the former presidential candidate say the race isn't wrapped up yet, but it's almost there. The former Vermont governor courted Democratic mayors this week with promises to look to their victories for guidance.
"If you want to win, you've got to start at the bottom, and that's where we're going to start with local races, then with your races and then on up the ladder so in 2008, we will win the presidency," Dean said.
This week, Dean won the endorsement of all Florida Democrats eligible to vote in the DNC election. He's also won the backing of the Democratic Party chairs in Mississippi, Oklahoma and Utah. Dean's success in such Republican-dominated states gives Democrats hope he is not a "red state" pariah.

Please God, bring it on. What a scream!!!!
Go Moore Go
I can't see Hillary allowing that. I doubt she would have the control over him. She would want someone whom she can control, because she will need that for her '08 run.
YYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHRRRRRRGGGGGGG!!!
This should accentuate the difference between the parties.
Gee, it seems it's only been a week since the pro-lifers in the Democrat Party - all two dozen of 'em - were speaking of how rosy former Indiana Rep. Tim Roemer's chances were.
Now their dream ticket would have to be Hugo Chavez and Jesse Jackson. Ramsey Clark could reprise his role as Attorney General, and of course, who else could they choose but Madeleine Albright to serve as Secretary of State? By boldly announcing now such an appropriate slate to match their chairman, I believe that the Democrats would in a perfect position for 2008.
Oh Please, Please, Please Do!
Many in the democratic leadership in red states are actually hardline, almost Green leaning figures.
That's not true in politics. Voters know less about local candidates than Presidential candidates. Candidates at the top of the ballot have coattails, not vice-a-versa."
It's always a Gubernatorial or Senate candidate that breaks the hold of the opposing party on a state.
You expect Dean to know what he's talking about?
Where can I contribute to Dean's nomination??????
I'll kick in, too.
I read that the struggle for the chairmanship is a backscenes fight between Lady Macbeth and His Enormousness Ted. Dean is a Kennedy man. If Dean wins - and I hope so - it will help alienate people. Remember when Carter threatened to whip Ted's ass? Ted never forgave him.
Go, Dean, go.
And these IDIOTS wonder why they get their A$$ES kicked every 2 years. GO DEAN GO...or perhaps Boxer would take the job. This is too easy. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Did Carter ever get around to whipping Ted's ass? It's a fair sized target!
